Holiday Shopping?
« on: August 28, 2013, 04:55:26 PM »
I'm curious - has anyone here started shopping for the holidays yet?

The thought of getting my Christmas card list ready popped in my head while making dinner (aka microwaving a potato, haha).

Now I'm browsing Amazon & eBay looking for a good deal on a Clarisonic set for my mom.

How about you?

Not yet, but I've always been an early shopper. I'll be starting to look for gifts very soon.

I'm a last minute shopper.  If I have my shopping done by the week before Christmas, I've gotten done early.  I envy those who have good ideas early in the year and get done.

half my list is done.  Usually people get gifts from whatever store I'm working at that will give me a discount.   I try to keep everyone's gift to under $10.

I have a few things already. I have some new gloves, pony coloring book, 2013 Pony calendar and a few other things for my daughter. I like to try to get it almost all done before Christmas. The only bad this is I find other thing when the holiday gets closer.

I like to do this cause I don't have to spend all this money in one month. I do things here and there when I have the extra funds.

The last few years I've been starting way early just in case I have a money crunch around the holidays (really sucks when that happens) so I look out for great deals and clearance stuff for my girls starting June/July and this year made an idea list so when people ask I can tell them. I've got most of my youngest daughters done and a little if my oldest. The sales help me get more for them without spending as much. They get spoiled rotten for the holidays since I started doing this :)

How do you get people to tell you what they want?!  Or are you guys just awesome at guessing/knowing?  My family is difficult, especially my Dad.  He always just goes out and buys the stuff he wants and doesn't tell anybody anything.  I'm envious of all you good shoppers.

Mine, too. I usually just ask them.  Of course my husband always tells me "nothing".  Yeah right!  I have to and WANT to get you something, you're my husband!

I have some ideas for some people, and will probably start soon!

My parents will probably tell us not to get them anything since we're going to Orlando and meeting them when they drive from my hometown this November. I have a Christmas present I haven't seen my mom from 2 years ago.... :/

I have a few people that are difficult to shop for, but if you're too difficult you get one of the standards: food, money/giftcard, alcohol, or nice chocolate.  The benefit of consumables is that the receiver isn't pressured to do something with the item if they don't actually need/want it.  It's easily passable and sharable.
I usually get my dad music cd's or food. Maybe a gift card to the place he shops at the most?  Another great thing would be a dinner coupon along the lines of "I'll take you to dinner and we'll spend time together. :D"  Quality time is the one gift I wish I could give most of my relatives, but since I live so far away and see them so rarely, I give them physical gifts instead.
