Don't fret!! My first time was a nightmare too, I wasted a ton of hair, but you'll get better each time you try!

I ended up breaking a needle about six plugs in. It's all so hard to see. I'll try again tomorrow. Right now, I'm calling Royal Rose "Royal Pain".

Are you using a larger needle to stick in the hair hole before you put your rehair needle in? Anything would work, I use a large safety pin because it's easy to pull out, a T-pin works well too. It can expand the hole a bit to help get your needle in - are you using a rehair tool?

I am using a rehair tool. I didn't really widen the holes first though.  I'll remember that tomorrow.

It makes it A LOT easier, at least in my opinion. Some ponies have such soft plastic it's not necessary but most G3s are pretty solid plastic, I think it would probably save you from breaking as many, sometimes though, you break needles and it's just something that happens! As I said, don't give up! It's awesome to have another new "rehair-er" here!!

totally recommend widening the holes first!! and if they still break, it could be too much hair in the plug :) i was doing a rehair the other night and broke 6 needles before i was even a quarter done!! definitely due to too much hair, but that was the look i was after  also, putting the needle in on an angle can break them too. i make my own now, so if they break it's no real biggy - size 22 tapestry needles, wire cutters and a nail file is all you need!!

Nail file! That's so smart. I usually just junk mine when they get all rounded and like... crimped over, but filing them! That's an awesome idea! :)

I have a metal nail file I bought just for this purpose - cause they are flat enough to fit between the two prongs of the needle :)

Double handful of dried rice in a sock, tie it shut.  Nuke for a minute or so, then use it to warm the head a bit.  Especially fun when using the thermal hairs!

I often use a thumb tack to widen the plug hole.. Not the flat kind but the one with the "handle"are those just called tacks? And the flat ones are called thumb tacks? IDK lol.... Aside from breaking less needles, it keeps me from ripping the plug holes... I just stick it in and then get the hair ready to go and pull it out right before each plug.. It also works nicely to make extra holes if needed like for fakies that only have one plug line or adding some on the front of those receeding hairline type ponies.. You know the ones hehe..

Prince Primbrose - Don't fret, you'll get better!  My first rehair took FOR-EV-ER! Heck I'm still pretty slow at it!

Great tips, I'll have to remember the warm rice sock for my next one....

I have a G3 that I FINALLY rehaired, and it all went really well, I just haven't been able to get a good picture of her... The pink in her hair keeps not showing up
Maybe I'll get home early enough tomorrow (and it'll be sunny *hopeful*) so I can actually get a nice picture.

Siha - pink washing out in photos is not uncommon, it can be so frustrating! I can't wait to see pics!
