Aleene's Original Tacky Glue - so far I'm unimpressed
« on: July 11, 2013, 06:21:53 PM »
It just hasn't stuck anything, the two parts just peel off each other with the absolute minimum force. Could I be using it wrong?

I need a glue to stick a head to a body where if you pick the pony up by head alone the neckline gapes due to a damaged neck seal. Its ripped more than half the way round, otherwise the pony is mint it's most annoying. An ebay disaster.

Anyhoo can anyone recommend a better glue that's closer to the Hasbro original glue? I've tried E-6000 as well with even worse results it simply doesn't stick pony vinyl.

I'd be so grateful for your secrets on this one!  ;)

I prefer proper model glue - you will find it in most hobby stores or model shops. Its designed to adhere toy plastics so it works great with ponies if you do feel the need to reglue a head back on.

Is super glue bad for ponies?  I've always used Gorilla glue Super glue for crafts that are more solid, and save the tacky glue for things that might be a little soft or porous like plaster of paris.

Superglue can be quiet aggressive and is able to melt plastic. It also is notorious for yellowing much quicker than other glues. Personally I dont use it for anything but its entirely your call and your own preference and any damage/degrading is likely to be some time in the future.

Oh well! I have ponies whose heads I glued back on after rehairing over 10 years ago with super glue and they are still fine (I did just go and check ;) ) but I will look for an alternative for future use if there is a possibility of problems.

What does everyone else use?

I got a fantastic glue from a model shop that was closing down, I can't for the life of me remember the name, it was a play on the word concrete.

I've also used modpodge too.

Oh no I have messed up two ponies with Gorilla super glue.  They developed a white ring around their entire seal.  So nooooooo walk away.  So far I have not found any glue I liked and I wonder if humidity plays a part.  Some of what was recommended here has been terrible glue for me.

Hi again!  :frolic:  You have such amazing knowledge! Can you recommend a specific UK brand?

Eep!  I'm glad I haven't used it on ponies yet.

Aw thanks! I use a modelling bostik brand, its actually an all purpose brand and you ll find it in the supermarket - I pipe it into a small cap and use a small paint brush to paint it on the neckline thickly and then leave it to set. I prefer it to superglue for several reasons. 1) its not as aggressive to plastics as other glues and therefore will not melt it, 2) it dries clear, 3) it is not as strong as other glues [I dont need ponies to be able to dangle by their head after all and its handy that the glue is, if needed, must more pliable to remove the head again should it be required].

In Singapore, we have a brand called UHU glue. It's a superglue of some sort but it doesn't melt plastics, and has been my best choice.
