How Do You Store Your MLP Collection?
« on: June 28, 2013, 01:42:04 AM »
I kept them in a large plastic tub for two years before but now I'm storing them in  three medium-sized boxes purchased at Michael's Crafts.  Planning to put white tissue paper in-between each pony to make "stalls."  Afraid that over time color-rubs will be a problem but not sure?  They are normally stored at room temperature or cooler.  Would love to see how you store your ponies...

Well, all of my ponies are in my parents house. Sitting either somewhere in Dream Castle itself, or they are in a drawer in the dresser that Dream Castle is propped on top of (all except for Gypsy who is currently with me in my apartment - yay!). For all my pony wear and pony accessories + my backcards and most of my puffy stickers - they are all in an air tight plastic container in my parents loft/attic.

I'm usually not very worried about color rubbing or things like this, as I live in a cool and dry (mostly) temperature. Even though we have loads of rain in the summer months it is rarely lots of humidity here. Mine are also stored in room temperature or cooler.

I have all mine on a billy bookcase from Ikea.

However I may need to pack them up soon for moving. I totally recommend when having them in large plastic tubs to put tissue paper between each pony. Because you don't know if any plastic breakdown could happen whilst they are closely packed together in the tub and then ponies get stained or ruined. :)

Eeep.. mine are in IKEA plastic tubs under my bed.. I might need to put tissue paper between them now. *worried*
Do you use the regular tissue you can buy in stores? I was always afraid the chemicals/bleach in them might cause a reaction with my ponies hence I've never used those yet.. ;<

I've always wrapped items (including ponies) in white tissue paper, to ensure that if anything got wet the tissue paper dye didn't spread.  Never considered that the white paper might contain bleach residue...

One thought for expensive or particularly precious ponies- you might wrap them in acid and lignin free paper like they use for scrapbooking and archiving things.  Regular paper contains certain acids and lignin (a natural plant product) that can interact with photos and plastics and cause staining and breakdown.  I don't have so many ponies yet that I'm doing this but I plan to in the future.

I would think ponies that you leave out on display are safe since they don't have anything rubbing against them and moisture can't get trapped around them.

I keep all of my G4 and G1 ponies on the display sections of my work desk. I store my G3s in a box under my desk to tackle for later.

Well at first I had all my childhood ponies in a box and they were just set in there touching each other. Nothing bad happened to them. Now I have them all set up in a case and in the basement of my house. I have had no issues yet.

My G1s are in three under-the-bed storage boxes on top of a wardrobe.  Might have to invest in some white tissue paper then, thanks for the tip folks. :thumb:

I keep my collection of 60 in a blue tub I've had since childhood.

I recently just packed them away, they couldn't fit on my bookcase anymore. Put them in individual zip lock baggies and into a suit case kept in my closet where its nice and dark but cool temp. :P

I kept my ponies in plastic tubs with no tissue paper for 12+ years with no adverse effects to their plastic. I have always kept the sticky ones in a smaller box with the lid open a bit. Sure, you get dust but I wanted them to breathe. I do live in a fairly dry climate though, so that is probably a factor too.

I would worry about the chemicals in the paper too. I assume it could get quite expensive if you have lots of ponies and are buying acid-free paper for separating huge tubs. Now I just display mine in enclosed glass cases and regular bookcases.

All my ponies are on display on my bookshelf which is three rows of five "cubbies." I still need to clear out some books to make room for the rest of my blindbags.

When I was away at school my collection at home was kept in a cardboard box with each pony wrapped in bubblewrap. My dad did that, I wasn't behind it but I'm glad he added bubblewrap!

My collection is primarily displayed in bookcases but my sale ponies are in plastic tubs. I use ones that are just tall enough for the ponies to stand in, with a piece of tissue paper separating each one. When they are sold, I use the piece of tissue paper to wrap them for shipping. :)
