I'm sure you are feeling enormously disappointed to miss out on what sounds like thousands of dollars of rare MLP stuff for free.  Is this "friend" someone you know in your day to day life or just through the Internet?  I wonder if, well intentioned though he might have been, he got caught up in lies trying to impress you and had to fake a theft to explain why his gift hasn't come through?

It just sounds massively off, the definition of "Too good to be true".

It occurs to me-  IF in fact this all really happened- that your friend can file an insurance claim for the lost items.  He should definitely do that if in fact he really did lose thousands of dollars worth of prototypes and toys...

One thing that baffles me, assuming now that what your friend says is true, is, who would be dumb enough to do this?
Anyone who knows what those ponies are worth, has to know that there will be no way for them to sell them within such a tight-knit community?

The thief can't put in on ebay, etsy, amazon, taobao, etc. They can't come to forums. So where are they going to sell them?
No collector will go ahead and buy stolen ponies, at least as far as I can imagine.

I've seen threads like this before. Each time they have unraveled quickly. As you have no proof of ownership and few details, what are we supposed to do? It would be very convenient to post something like this and then claim every prototype or MOC on ebay was supposed to be yours and was stolen from your friend. I'm sorry but, I don't consider anything that isn't in my possession 'mine'

To clarify: I'm not saying you are lying, or calling you out. But I am saying that in order for anything to actually be done about this, details are needed. This community has been scammed before.

I had a woman do this to me once, telling me she had all kinds of MLP's, even some MOC, in her basement.  She had me come over and dig through tons of stuff in her basement for at least 2 or 3 hours....only to admit she made the whole thing up months after I never found anything in her basement.  Why?  No clue.  Some people just like to see people's hopes get raised and then laugh as they watch them come crashing down.

So he was keeping all these valuables for you, and he thought the safest place for them was his truck? And I'm a little confused as to how your friend knows Mlp well enough to know these ponies are rare and valuable prototypes etc, and yet can't tell you which ponies it was?

Was this someone you were going to buy off of? Did you already pay for them?
Or was this someone you had temporarily storing your items (in his truck?)

If he was storing them... did you buy them any time recently, to look through feedback to figure out who you had? (If you can't remember).

I can understand why he would have the ponies in the truck if he was going to deliver them to you, but why did he have his Transformers in the truck as well? I would be keeping prototypes under lock and key in the house!

Did he buy a lot of stuff for the Transformers from a collector or former employer of Hasbro and there were MLP in there? I'm confused as to how he got these.
