Now in my crazy little mind there was no inter-species dating...but it always happend. Some of my ponies broke the rules and were sent to be the farm works on the bottom shelves...while others that follwed the rules ranked higher on the shelves.....

This may not be quite what you mean, but when I was younger, I did have like a "ruler of the ponies"....that being Glory.  Glory was in charge of keeping Ponyland safe from bad guys, so she'd spend most of her time on a cliff over-looking Ponyland (ie, the corner of my bed looking down onto the floor). 

GLory isn't necessarily my favorite (though she's up there), but she always just screamed "leader" to me

I've got a Great Dictator: my childhood favourite D'nP Player, renamed Galaxy. (edit: more like Field Marshal mul-ta's Chief of Staff. I have this annoying habit of revisiting my posts.) Player's quite a queer pony, as I usually thought of him as male, which didn't prevent him from putting on some lipstick (actually a pinkish lip balm). Like every Great Dictator, Galaxy-Player has an army... of Lemon Drop variants. Perhaps also a Flutter Pony Air Force, 'cos nothing can withstand Utter Flutter and I finally got repro wings for everyone.

Oh, then I have Lieutenant Trotting Pose Confetti, illogically not a Lemon Drop. Classified information: I've been toying with the idea of a set of custom Prussian Lieutenant pony Wear for her.

Not quite the same in my herd, but Bow Tie was always the 'leader' as she was my first pony and Butterscotch her deputy as she was my second.  Bow Tie is very kind and wise and all the other ponies go to her for advice and guidance.  Butterscotch is the kindly 'auntie' who all the baby ponies love.   

Now this probably does sound mad, but now I've got Dream Castle and Majesty I'm wondering about the hierarchy in my herd.    I'm thinking Majesty is more the figurehead like our Queen and Bow Tie is like a Prime Minister.   Methinks I need to set up a meeting between the two anyhow.

But now that you mention it, I guess I do? and the Queen in my herd would be Light Up Princess Sparkle as she stands among all the babies at the nursery. She's more of a mother though but she makes sure everyone is ok.

riff raff to me are baits, skulking at the bottom till they can be transformed into better citizens but not in stepford wives kind of way

For me it's customs, grails, and prototypes who are the top ponies in the herd. Then there's the regular releases, with alicorns at slightly higher status than the common playful pony folk (they just think they're in control. ) At the bottom of the ladder you have McPonies, blind bags and fakies in that order. There are always exceptions of course, like the flocked filly pony who governs ALL the blind bags with an iron a large, fluffy hoof while the other fakies sit on the art supply shelf below and bide their time...

*giggle* Its a little bit different I ll admit that but at the end of the day we all collect plastic ponies right? So I can assure you I have heard odder collection strategies. And its really not that different from your collecting having a leader or some kind and I know lots of people do that!

Here is my pony hierarchy.

Level 1. Blossom (she's my first ever pony so she has to be number 1 )
Level 2. All other childhood ponies: SS Buttons, Galaxy, TAF Buttons, Princess Tiffany, Peach Blossom, Lady Flutter, Little Flitter, Sealight, Baby Sleepy Pie and Little Honey Pie.
Level 3. Favourite ponies from childhood: Firefly, Moondancer, Glory, Medley, Bow Tie, Applejack, Twilight, Ember, Skydancer and Sundance.
Level 4. Favourite Baby Ponies and Princess Dragons.
Level 5. My sea ponies and bushwoolies
Level 6. All my other ponies.
