Ok, we're in the UK so Root Beer isn't common at all so the poor young lady a the till can be forgiven for not knowing that Root Beer is alcohol free.  But getting ID'd for root beer!

That's funny you should mention root beer getting confused with actual beer because one of my Patients today did the same thing! I'm a therapist in a nursing home and she was going by another Pt's room and did a double take and was like "He's got Beer in here! That's not allowed!"...I had to laugh and tell her that it was root beer.

That's funny! I have a similar story but different product.

I used to work for my in-laws at their store and we had a drink called Ginger Beer??? Heck, I didn't know it was a soda type thing and I carded some guy buying it. He kinda looked at me funny, shrugged his shoulders and gave me his ID. He left and my FIL about fell on the floor laughing.

Here we call that a "Dark n Stormy". Gingerbeer is common as here.

ginger beer is like ginger ale soda only more intense and not so watered down, if you do not like spice do not drink it. The best stuff is organic and it is also good if you add cola to it.

Here in AUS, you have to be 18 to get your drivers license, and also to get into clubs. Went to my local club, with my brand new shiny license, and the bouncer refused me in cause I wasn't 18. Took about 5 mins and 3 of us to get him to realise a license meant I was 18, not 17. "but it says you were born in 1980..." "yes it does. And it's 1998!"

I asked what was in a particular alcholic drink off the menu once, and the waiter looked at me and said "Doesn't matter, you can't have any anyway."
(I was above the legal drinking age!)

Bahaha, I didn't show him my ID - I ended up ordering a non-alcholic drink instead to avoid the awkwardness.

Ginger beer is basically ginger ale... y'know, Canada Dry? Just ginger spiced fizzy drink. Very refreshing! Just don't sneeze when drinking it. Holy canoli, the things it will do to your sinuses.... But root beer and ginger ale really did used to be alcoholic, just like Coca~Cola was really once made with cocaine extract. Funnily enough, all three drinks were marketed originally as healing tonics!! Today, we know that they're just delicious.

I was buying an actual alcoholic drink once while my sister was with me, shes two years younger then me, and at the time she WAS under age. and the lady asked for my ID which I gave her, because laws are laws etc. but then she looks expectantly at my sister, "i need yours too." xD I was like what? shes not drinking? of course shes not old enough, do you want my 5 year old son to show you his ID as well. :p (I wasnt aggressive with her, if anything i was trying to be very nice about it, and joke with her.) her co worker, turned around and tapped her on the shoulder and just shook his head like "no, you cant ask for her ID"

I was a little paranoid that she might follow me out thinking I was buying drinks for my sister or something xD, ill also add that my sister was very obviously preggers, I know you dont usually want to just "assume" someone is pregnant, but still it was just a silly thing to have happen.
