Used rehairing tool.... now what?
« on: June 12, 2013, 01:31:47 PM »
ok so a lot of tutorials seem to be pretty vague on this bit. I've used a reharing tool to rehair a custom G4 and obviously the hair will pull out really easily now.... do i just put a blob o' glue down the neck? what kind of glue? PVA? hot glue? araldite?

sorry for interrupting the usual custom programming!

Hey, this is a great place to ask questions like that too!   It's always fun to see the results, but helping other people finish their projects is a big part of what this place is for!  As for your question, I think usually people like to use Aleene's Tacky Glue, then try to gently spread it around with a toothpick or something so it covers the plugs.  Superglue is a bad idea from my understanding, as it can leak through the plugs and make the hair crunchy and solid on the outside.

Hope this helps!

Do you knot the hair in the middle before putting it in the hole? This helps keep it in. First widen the hole with like a thumb tack or something, then make a knot in the middle of the section of hair you're using for the plug and then put the plug in the hole. Then after you're done, clear tacky glue is what I use to keep it all in (though sometimes the knots are enough even)

I use Fabri-Tac glue :) You can buy it from Dollyhair.com and I think I saw it at Walmart in the craft section but need to check that again.

Yup, Walmart sells Fabritac as well. Caution though, FabriTac contains acetone. If you put too much in the head, it will turn squishy and potentially ruin an FBR *speaking from experience*

I use Gem Tac, and a q-tip as well. I used to have an old paint brush that I would use for glue (since I didn't use it to paint with anyone), but it became too much of a hassle.

If you're using a reroot tool DON'T knot your hair.
It will only tear and split the plug holes.

Knotting is only for the needle and thread method :)
