Mother's Day
« on: April 26, 2013, 11:39:05 PM »
I stress about this every year! And birthdays and Christmas.. lol.
I hate buying gifts for people that don't ever "want" or "need" anything - my mom! They make it so not easy when you're going to buy them something anyway.

I thought I had the coolest idea last year. I sent her a huge strawberry planter with some strawberry plants. Who doesn't love fresh strawberries!? But she never said if they bloomed or if they were even planted at all. I dunno. It was kinda disappointing.

So I'm thinking this year is a gift card kinda year..

Does anyone have any cool ideas?

I was born on mothers day so I am covered for life! :P

But in all seriousness, my Mum hates getting stuff for mothers day, so I get her something lighthearted!
I am getting her this for 2013: http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/Book/How-to-Tell-If-Your-Cat-is-Plotting-to-Kill-You/19764131/

That's funny! Fun gifts usually are a good choice.
Reminds me.. she does love books. But she has a kindle. Hmm.

I usually just go with a small gift for mother's day.  Flowers are always good because nobody else ever sends them to her!

Try having a mother whose birthday can some years be 2 days before mothers day!! I normally just get her one gift for both, at her request, but she is sooo hard to buy for!! Still haven't got a clue foe this year.

@ stopxmotion - get her an amazon gift card so she can purchase some kindle books :) they never expire, which is awesome. Me and my sis give them to each other for Xmas :)

Hubby and I were discussing this yesterday. We too are sick and tired of feeling forced to buy gifts we can't afford that no one even actually wants. If our mom's want something they buy it for themselves. So this year for his mom we are making her a 3 course dinner, whatever she wants. We'd do the same for mine but she lives a state away so we are going to send a card and then I'm going to call her. All she wants that she can't buy herself is more contact with me.

My mom's birthday is the same! She calls it [her name] Week, especially cause before the divorce, her anniversary was the same week too. She graduates the same week this year though, so she's re-instated it with full honours.

For my mom I picked up some interesting children's books (a genre she enjoys, along with murder mysteries, but those aren't as safe to get for her because anything I think looks readable she already owns!), a teapot (she collects them) that looks like an owl, and a CD of one of her favourite bands. We no longer have a music store in the city and she doesn't like to shop online, so music is a safe gift with her.

Maybe some small fancy object? I get my mom delicate stacking dolls sometimes, but again that's something she collects. But she also likes it when I bring her home from trips small stone/metal/wood animals, artbooks, small pictures, just little pretty trifles that don't take up a lot of room and are nice to look at.

My mum's difficult to shop for too (what is it with moms?).  She has so much stuff!  Not like she's a hoarder or anything, but the house is so tiny, and space is so limited, plus she's got forty-plus years of accumulated trinkets... :dizzy:

I've already helped my son pick out his gift for his gram (a Moonrays solar stake for her garden - http://www.moonrays.com/Flower-Globe-Pendant-Lights-P490.aspx - though his has a monarch butterfly instead of a hummingbird).  She also loves puzzles and crosswords and such... I've been thinking either a pretty gift basket filled with puzzle books and pens, or Crosswords DS for her DSiXL.  (Anypony have it?  Is it any good?  Please pm me if you'd mind sharing your opinion of it?)  Or maybe both.  She is a pretty splendid mum. ^.^

Wishlist - I'm back on (semi-) active buying again... can't buy everything on my wish list all at once (yay, back-to-school and tuition fees), but I am still looking to plump up my collection a bit more: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,380638.0.html

We give my mother framed pictures of my son, who is her favorite person in the world.

With the death of her mother in November and now the death of her father just last week, this Mother's Day is going to be REALLY hard for her. I've emailed my aunt to see if she has any photos of my grandmother and my mother together to get framed for her this year.

I usually ask what she wants.
Some years I take her out for dinner. One year she had just moved, so I took her to a garden centre and she picked out some roses for her new garden.
This year she is getting a sticker maker lol
