Hello Im Betty! New to the pony world. Collected them when I was a kid and have recently started again with my 3yr old. She loves them. Most recently she has been mixing them with some LPS. I'm not sure what all the G1 G3 is so hopefully ill be able to understand all this from the site. Thanks for having me!!!!!

Hi, G1 is the term for Generation One ponies like the ones from the 1982-1995. G2 is for the second generation of ponies that were made around 1997..not sure on exact date.  G3 is the third generation of ponies made and those I think started in 2003-2009.  G4 is for our current generation of my little ponies you can find in the stores that are part of the Friendship is Magic cartoon.
