What Mimic cost in 1998
« on: February 02, 2013, 09:31:44 PM »
I came across a version of my old, old, old, OLD webpage stashed someplace . . . I completely forgot about this, but apparently I had a pricing guide on it!   Unfortunately I didn't make any note of WHEN it was last updated, but probably 1998 or 1999.

The average price of Mimic back then:  $38

Diamond Dreams:  $10

Red Roses:  $8.25

Oh WOW!  I started collecting in 2002 and I bought my MINT Mimic for $120.  I wish I could remember who I bought her from...I also purchased a mint Tex w/accessories, and I think a mint Chief w/hat.  I do remember she was a really respected member of the community at the time and I loved the ponies I purchased.

I wasn't around in 1998, but I know by 2001 or 2002 came around, I considered anythign more than $30 for a Mountain Boy was expensive! All bar one of mine came for less than that price, which seems insane now! Pricing has changed a huge amount... some up, some down.

A bit of a sidetrack but I loved Moondancer's Dream, especially the clip art bits and the ugly pony and bad pony name sections! Ah nostalgia :)

I don't know about everyone else, but I had less money back then.  So even if Rapunzel was "only" $100, that was still a lot of money for me.  And didn't her price jump way up a few years later (presumably when a lot of us were graduating from college and getting jobs that paid well)?  And now her price has fallen again (I think because a lot of us have started families and our priorities have changed from ponies to kids).

That's my theory, anyway.
Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

My Mimic was $5.96 plus tax (don't remember what sales tax in my state was back then), bought her from K-Mart
Probably doesn't own a stolen piece of the Taj Mahal.

OMG I wish I had been collecting back then, but I was a too-cool-for-school little goth girl so all my money went to clothes and CD's  (Remember CD's?)

I wonder if it was easier or harder to find Nirvana ponies back then, and what they sold for. Maybe easier, because there were fewer collectors looking for them, but maybe harder, because the internet and e-bay wasn't what it is today so not as many international connections to find them? Anybody?
