Rescue from Midnight Castle
« on: January 31, 2013, 01:25:42 PM »
OK, so my childhood was a bit unusual in that I was never allowed to watch many movies or TV shows. I never saw any of the G1 cartoons even though I loved the toys. I just watched Rescue from Midnight Castle on youtube for the first time. Yay! Though I'll be singing "Call Upon the Sea Ponies" for the foreseeable future, which will annoy the heck out of my DH.

Now I wish there had been a scary Midnight Castle playset. And I would die for a Moockick's Mushroom House playset!

So what should I see next? What are your favorite G1 songs? Are there any playsets corresponding to scenes you wish had been made?

I like most of the songs from the original series, but the one I like the most ( At the moment) would have to be "How can you be so cold."
Regarding playsets, it would've been nice to see a Flutter Valley set or even a Mountain of Gloom playset. :P

I love the idea of a Moochick playset!

The next Special after that was "Escape from Catrina" which I love almost as much as Midnight castle.

Then came the movie and the series "My Little Pony and Friends".  I didn't find them nearly as good  but there are a few moments that made me smile.  I never saw the following series, "My Little Pony Tales" and can't comment.

Oh I love Rescue at Midnight Castle.  The best of the G1 cartoons, IMO.
Next, watch Escape from Catrina.  Almost as good.
After that, watch MLP: The Movie.  Still pretty good.
As for the day-to-day tv series, ehhh.  It's nowhere the quality of the specials and movie, and it doesn't really hold up as well.  Some is unintentionally funny and weird, though.

One of my favorite regular episodes is Sweet Stuff and the treasure hunt.
Probably doesn't own a stolen piece of the Taj Mahal.

Now I wish there had been a scary Midnight Castle playset.
:dribble: Yes please.
I would then say to Hasbro: "Shut up and take my money"

I wish they had made the villains and other bad guys into toys in the 80s.  It's only recently that they've considered that collectors and kids might want the "baddies" in their toybox for MLP (giving us Nightmare Moon and Trixie, and the Diamon Tiara blindbag).
I know Trixie and Diamond Tiara aren't really evil, but they aren't nice gals...

Oh yeah, the baddies in Midnight Castle are way, way scarier than any G4 baddie to date!

Here's another vote for Escape From Catrina!

As for playsets, I wish they made Mr. Moochick's mushroom too.  Maybe the some of the mushrooms could magically "grow" when a button is pushed and a secret compartment reveals the Rainbow of Light.  :D

Ember- I also think a Danny doll would have been neat.

I watch the Magic Coins.  A fun little adventure that personally believe is the best story of the series.
I spent five years learning Atmospheric Science on the university level.  I come out of it with the ultimate knowledge of the universe.  √10 * π ≈ 10.

I would say watch them all. I know a lot of folks say it's dated or it doesn't hold up, etc.

But ya gotta take our thoughts with a grain of salt. I've seen the episodes over and over -  to me it's old just because I've watched them so many times over the years. I probably at one time could quote episodes word for word.

For someone who has never seen it and has an open mind, it's new, it's ponies and if you can tolerate the animation not being perfect then I think you will like any of the episodes.

Probably doesn't own a stolen piece of the Taj Mahal.
