G1 baits, best way to sell?
« on: December 31, 2012, 12:33:35 PM »
I have a bunch of G1 baits that have been sitting around for what seems like forever. What would be the best way to sell them? individually? or small or large lots? Is there even much interest in these now? I mean, would it be worth it for someone to pay shipping on a large lot of them? I'm just trying to think up the best way to go about selling them. Maybe now isn't the time? Any thoughts appreciated :)

I'd say individually (but that's just because I prefer to buy them that way). Just put them in the sales forum here and they will probably sell well, and not just for customizing;I know I personally like to buy baits sometimes and add them to my collection when they aren't super baity. I'd be interested to see who you have. =) Good luck!

The best way to sell them...might be to me!
I would say to sell individuals because people tend to buy baits based on the pose or the color they want for a certain custom they have in mind.
Taking some group photos and posting them up to the sales area is prob. the best idea. There are still customizers around who might like some, I know I can't get enough of customizing for sure. Not sure about the time of year, people could have holiday money they want to spend, but then also newyears & etc / visit family some people may be distracted a bit. Still, good luck & I'll def. be looking at your post if you decide to do one!

I think you would be best to list them individually for a couple of reasons - 1) people can be looking for specific poses/colours and just want that one pony for customs purposes not needing a whole bag of G1 baits and 2) some people may be willing to try a restore rather than customisation so you never know who may be interested [what is one persons bait is another persons recoverable pony I believe!]

Oooh, now my interest is piqued! I don't need more baits, I don't need more baits, I don't need more baits...! :faint:

You might also want to advertise whether they'd be good alternate-rehair opportunities; some folks are getting into that now, so they want a pony with symbols/eyes left, but no hair! You could group them by "just needs hair" and "in need of full overhaul," if that saves you time in trying to describe their conditions! I know it can take a loooong time to go over each pony and give a description!

Oh this is a great point! Ponies which mainly just have a hair issue are certainly becoming super popular as alternate rehairing is very popular at the moment.

That's how I'm doing it! I no longer list as 'bait' since restoration work has come on such a long ways since I started just assigning ponies to the bait box. I'd go for photos/etc on here anyway, since it's free to sell stuff here.

Ok, I'll try individually, and then maybe put whatever doesn't sell in a lot. Any ideas on pricing?? What would be a reasonable price range for baits?

It depends largely on whats wrong with them to be honest and sometimes it even depends on who it is - a baity Red Roses is going to be worth more than a baity Cotton Candy for example.

I would say if its just hair with some minor marks then half or a little over half the price of the ponies actual value. It its stains or regrind or cancer or something completely unfixable then $1-3 subject to the pony, pose and colour.
