How often do you brush your pony's hair?
« on: October 21, 2012, 01:55:04 PM »
And how do you brush it? Is there a special way? I've had some very bad experiences with doll and pony hair, and I always wonder if I'm doing something wrong. I just use a normal hairbrush (which I *mostly* use just for the ponies) and just brush. But what about those curls?!

Well, if the hair is very tangled you're supposed to start brushing at the bottom of the hair and work your way up.
I don't brush mine often, just if I notice they have tangles. And I tend to use the combs/brushes that came with the ponies. I don't know if that makes a difference?  I don't have ponies with curly hair, I don't know what to do about those!
I'll put something here some time

Always brush hair while it's wet or moist.  Brushing dry hair has more of a tendency to break and shred, as dust and other fibers get trapped between the strands.  I usually do straw curls with my ponies or wrap their tails around their legs and secure with bathroom tissue.  Original curls get cold water and brushed around my fingers so they retain their shape.  Start at the bottom and work through the hair slowly!

I don't share my hair combs and such with my dolls and ponies as the oils from my hair can degrade the plastic over time.

I would say I brush ALL my ponies about 4x a year...

What mishaps have you had while brushing?  Maybe there is a solution to prevent such things from happening to you in future.

Just whenever, I always use pony or barbie brushes/combs. Never anything for humans.

Yep I'm following the others. Normally mine only have a nice brushing while they are being washed. I'd say many of them so far once in six months?

I normally only brush their hair when I wash them after they first come into my herd. Although sometimes I get the urge to brush ponies' hair at other times when it's dry. I usually use one specific comb which is plastic, and then sometimes I use a pony comb.

Only when I've just washed them, or when I want to display them. I don't want to damage the hair by brushing it any more than necessary. And actually I comb it instead of brushing it, using the same wide-tooth comb I use for myself, but I wash it before using it on ponies.

I rarely brush mine, only like if the hair really unruly when I unpackage them or when I'm taking pictures. I mostly just try to tame stray hairs by smoothing them with my fingertips but when I do brush them I mainly use a metal comb (it minimizes static and breakage imo) and brush from the bottom up. I sometimes use a little doll wig spray if it seems dry.

I start with any plastic doll comb (usually a Monster High brush or a MLP one if it's laying around close enough, hehe) and then I get out smaller tangles with a very fine-toothed human comb, I've only used it like once and not even the end with all the teeth (one end of it is for teasing- that's the end I use.)

Or at least that's what I do for now, until I can afford to get them their own special combs and hair supplies. As for washing, shampooing and conditioning, I use whatever I happen to have laying around- which, in these several last cases, has been fairly expensive shampoo and conditioner that my mom wasn't all too happy about.  Luckily I have extra, so plenty more where that came from! I like to leave lots of conditioner in as the hair dries, leaves their manes and tails soft and silky!  :lovey:

Hum, I just brush them when I notice tangles or if their hair looks a little unruly.

I do not brush mine very much. When they are new I like to style the loose ones. Most of my collection is still in there boxes. I do not like to mess with the G4 ones to much. The hair seems to fall out more then the older ones. If it gets messed up then I like to comb it. Otherwise I just leave them alone in there home :)

I find it very cathartic, so typically I pick up two or three when I need to take a chill pill because of work, road rage, boredom, ext. I agree about wetting/misting the hair. It helps with tangles, too.

I comb out their hair when it's being conditioned and then it gets brushed out once it dries - usually with a g3 MLP brush and never one of my own.  :)

After that, they rarely get brushed again unless I'm taking pics or I happen to notice tangles.

I only brush it when I first get them, and that's only when I think they need it. I find it a chore to brush and wash a ponies hair. I am lazy. :D
