I use a wig brush :) Believe it or not the plastic brushes which come with ponies are not a great idea on repeat - plastic on nylon generates static which can actually cause hair to tangle and break over time. Metal glides through plastic so a basic wig brush is great - I picked mine up in my local Sallys they are not too expensive. I also use a demister bottle which is filled with water at the same time - a gentle dampening skoosh of the water not enough to do anything other than minimally dampen the hair and then a brush and style.

You should always brush when wet as brushing dust and dirt built up can cause breakage and when a pony has her natural curl I use a metal hair pick.

I do this every 3 or 4 months. It takes up a whole weekend!

I aim for once, as I love silky hair and don't wish to inadvertently make any frizzies. Depends on the hair too. I wash first and have a wire slicker for brushing (that is only used on vinyl hair). If a pony has factory original curls I try and style with my hand, push any loose bits back into place. Played with, previously brushed, tangled messy curls I use a wide tooth comb to get them nice again. :( All my ponies are stored, so when I finally put them up in display cabinets I'll most likely have some hair to tame. I've got pretty good at packing them though so the hair doesn't get messed up while in storage.

Thanks!

My hair problems include brushing a Moxie's hair constantly and ending up with a mess of frizzy hair, leaving a certain G3 RD for a little less than a month with no brushing and the pink part of her mane went frizzy (!) and I still can't get it out, never brushing and letting the hair turn frizzy, brushing and hair breaks, trying to curl some G3 hair and ending up with a horrible dry mess of slighty-curly hair that looks awful . . . I could go on and on and on . . .  :cloud:

Oh yeah, Hathorcat's got a great point - try to use a metal pick or brush if possible because if there are any defects in the comb's plastic, those will catch and rip the hair.  You can find small metal brushes in the pet grooming aisle at a pet store.

Have you watched any Youtube tutorials about hair brushing/styling?  They might give you some suggestions!

I normally use just a regular my little pony comb to brush my pony hair. I dont use any special technique. I agree that wetting the hair down helps though I often brush their hair dry.

I comb my ponies' hair as little as possible to prevent damage. I use a comb and always when the hair is wet and covered in conditioner.

Me too. I usually only comb when I first get the ponies, if that. If they are in mint/nm condition I don't touch the hair at all.

If you buy a metal brush or comb at a pet store as suggested [great idea!] make sure you purchase one which has metallic ends, the ones with the little plastic balls on the tip of each prong are risking the same kind of thing as the plastic brushes.

They're brushed when they get cleaned, after that they're lucky if it's once in 5 years.
