Hi Everybody.
I signed up to MLP Arena a while back, but I'm only just getting around to writing my introduction after attending the 2012 PonyCon and being told this was the site to be active on!
So, here's my Pony Story...
I've always loved MLP ever since my Grandmother gave me my first one, Blossom, when I was too young to really remember getting her.
I remember coming downstairs early one Saturday or Sunday morning, turning on the TV and being blown away by seeing the awesome Rescue At Midnight Castle for the first time!
It was such an epic story! Easily as action-adventure based and exciting as anything cartoons like He-Man had to offer! That was it! I was hooked!
It was many years before I was able to get any more ponies as despite my constantly asking for them, my mother wouldn't let me have them because they were aimed at girls. I was still able to sometimes get the comic and some books though.
I eventually managed to save my pocket money and when I was old enough to be allowed to go out alone, I amassed a small collection including Magic Star and Baby Lemon Drop, but it wasn't until I was able to have an after school paper round and my own small income that I could really get a decent amount of ponies.
I have fond memories of my first carousel pony and a color changing baby sea pony, later leading to a bigger collection when I realised how cheap it was to buy second hand ponies from Car Boot sales and Yard sales etc.
I never got to see very many episodes of the MLP cartoons, but I would spend hours drawing out my own comic strips, creating adventures for my own ponies.
Eventually, when I got older, I passed my collection on to younger family members and didn't collect any more apart from a brief interest in G2 when I bought around 6 ponies, but didn't get into it like I had with G1.
I eventually got to see more of the G1 cartoon as more became available to buy, but by the end of my teens my life had very little pony.
I pretty much ignored G3 and G3.5 which everyone tells me was a smart move
Then G4 came along, and initially, I thought the ponies looked pretty goofy and too cutesy. I didn't think they had the charm of G1.
I assumed any related media would be pretty shallow, probably all about shopping, dating and sleepovers, so I didn't look into G4 at all for a long time.
It wasn't until I became aware of the Brony phenomenon, when I was like, "Wait a minute, guys are into MLP now?! Where was this when I was in school!?"
So, eventually, about 6 months ago, after seeing so much stuff about bronies and the new show all over the internet, I watched My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and was blown away all over again! It was great to see a MLP show so well done! I love the characterization, the humor, the storylines, the great moral lessons and the nods to fandom. The only down side is the lack of as many villains as the G1 show, but I love that the current show has lots of elements of fantasy and adventure, it's definitely not just for little girls.
So, now I find myself loving G4 and collecting ponies all over again, I've even started customising ponies for the first time, and creating my own characters! Most of my friends think Im crazy, but I don't care, I love being part of a great, creative, caring community!
What a great time to be a MLP fan!
