Perfume Puff-ing some Ponies

I have some G1's that I bought as a lot that have good bodies but really bad haircuts.  I thought it would be fun to turn them into Perfume Puffs.  Now, I've heard acrylic yarn or alpaca/acrylic blends work really good for this, but is there a specific brand that would work best?  I figured I'd order it online or find some at my local Hancock Fabrics if it was a brand they carried.

Hancock's has a lot of the ones I use- Lion brand comes to mind and there are a few others as well- just look for a soft bulky yarn and that will work fine 100% acrylic will be softer then a blend but the blends are easier to find.

I did a thread search and this is what I collectively gathered on my sleuthing...

• Lion Brand, someone mentioned "Hometown USA" as a style/type.
• Someone mentioned "size 6", I'm assuming that means the thickness?
• Some alpaca blends will shed over time.

Also, I have a G1 "Stripes" with super frizzy hair that I'm considering converting into a Perfume Puff (because RAINBOW)!   I'm still undecided on that one.

Most yarn that you use is going to have some shedding - when you unravel the yarn it is basically just loose fibers, after all, so don't be too worried about shedding - it happens, and it's okay! I've personally only used accryllic yarns for puff hair (I've also used loose wool roving, but that's a whole other story)
