Being an avid reader, I tend to have more than one book going at once.
The Little Country by Charles de Lint
The Painted Drum by Louise Erdrich

I'm reading City of Secrets - the 4th book in the Stravaganza series by Mary Hoffman.

I think a lot of you would LOVE this series! It's fun. Start with the first book. It's about kids (teenagers) from 20th century London find talismans brought to their world and the talismans transport them to 16th century Italy but in an alternate dimension.

There is crossover on plots and characters throughout the series but each book focuses on one central character and introduces a new "Stravagante" (person who can move between worlds).

Yay, serendipity - I found the first book to that at my local thrift shop last week!  So far, so good (though I have to confess: the sparkly cover sold me on it... who me, magpie?).  I just got to the part where Lucian has been told he's a Stravagante. ^.^

Wishlist - I'm back on (semi-) active buying again... can't buy everything on my wish list all at once (yay, back-to-school and tuition fees), but I am still looking to plump up my collection a bit more: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,380638.0.html

Just started Sins of the Heart by Eve Silver.

After this one I need a break from paranormal romance for a while. Maybe get a more slice-of-life book to read.

I JUST finished Dinotopia by James Gurney. Above: James Gurney art. Beautiful, beautiful book, I need to find my copies of Faeries and Gnomes because they're in the same vein and I haven't read them since I was very tiny...

Awesome! Do you like it? I think we have the same copy of that book! I like the sparkly cover. They redesigned the covers so they're not so sparkly. :( Anyway I meant 21st century kids! Whatever though. The first book confused me a lot at first but it is a really good and involving series once you get into it!

I finished it & really enjoyed it! I'd seen the film but the book is definitely a little different. I think I like both though, but in different ways :)

Now I'm reading a book of short stories by Stephen King called Night Shift. I love Stephen King, I didn't realise I had this unread on my shelf.

@ Rosencrantz:  Ooo, Dinotopia was great!  Mr. Gurney made several, and there are even novels set in the same world.  Thanks for posting the art; I need to find those for my son, I'm thinking... ^.^

I'm on the second one right now. Am sad that the third was out of print and used copies are so expensive (that ship to Canada). I'm gonna have to save up for that, 'cause I really want to learn about Poseidos. I've been intrigued since I saw it on the Dinotopia map with 'sunken' beside it.

And yes! Totally get them for your son! These were highlights of my childhood, I'd just sit and look at the pictures and we lost our original copies in a flood :(

If you liked it you might want to check out The sequel "Castle in the Air."  Sophie and Howl are minor characters in it but if you like Diana Wynne Jones' writing style, it's a treat!
If wishes were horses, they'd be My Little Ponies.

Oh nice! I'll have to keep an eye open for that. I need some more books that are speedy reads as I'm behind on my 50 books challenge. Thank you!

11/22/63 by Stephen King.  It's ridiculously long, but so far really interesting.
