Brushes vs Combs
« on: July 17, 2012, 10:07:32 AM »
I'm curious. Do you pony people prefer the brushes or the combs for your pony hair styling needs? The various gens have come with either or, but is there one you like better? Or maybe you've got something special that you use instead. Maybe you don't even bother with them!

I, personally, prefer the combs. I find them easier to use when trying to seperate plugs of hair, and I find that the hair gets stuck in them less than with the brushes. The brushes have the advantage of being larger, but when a pony has knotted hair it tends to just get stuck in it.

What do you think?

Combs.

I'm the same with my ponies as with my own hair, got to be combs and not brushes! I just find it easier. Although I'm more likely to use a normal comb than a pony comb, some of those little things are too pretty and rather useless. ;)

Neither- I find a toothbrush to work the best... Would that still be considered a brush though?

Combs. But not the pony combs, real combs. Pony combs are too small.  :P

If I'm going to use an actual pony accessory, I prefer the G3 brushes!  They're have the rigidity of comb, but covers more like a brush.  I stay away from using my G1 accessories for stuff like that, but the brushes are more flimsy anyway.  Only good if you have a tangle-free beauty!

combs for sure!  I find that brushes seem to equal frizzy hair. :)

ALL THE COMBS AND BRUSHES *insert evil laugh and runs out of the thread grabbing combs and brushes as she goes*

*cough* sorry I dont know what comes over me when people mention pony combs and brushes :)

For styling I prefer combs...MLP brushes are lovely but more decorative than useful I find.

Normal comb (not pony comb). Specifically a detangler comb that I use on my own hair:

They don't pull as much, although they're no help when using a flattening iron/straightener.

I marked brush but just for everyday pony styling. It's actually a McDonald's Victorious Toy Brush. It works really well and doesn't pull the hair too much.

But for Pony Spa and Styling, I use a wide-toothed comb very similar to the combs in @Elisto's post. This is for hard-core snarls and frizzy hair.

Yeah, I should probably add that I don't do much styling beyond the basic de-frizzing and straw curls (not very well I might add).

Combs! Nothing is better for taming pony hair than those plain combs the original CP ponies came with!

When I style pony hair I always wet it and use a regular comb. If I need to separate plugs or work out tangles I use a clay sculpting tool which is pointed on one end and rounded on the other.

Depends what apI'm trying to do, so I picked both!  :)

I comb out with a normal (human-sized) detangling comb.  But after they dry put, I usually brush they're hair put with a g3 brush.  And sometimes a wide-toothed (curl) comb.

I use a human comb. Half of it is wide-tooth and the other half is, um, fine-tooth? Or whatever. I go through the hair with the wide end first until it runs smooth through the hair, then I go over it some more with the fine side.

I can't use doll combs, even though everyone says you should. They hurt my hands (and I have such petite hands!), so the human comb works best for me.
