Got my Axolotl!

there are a few more pictures on page 3. He is a leucistic, and has a small collection of freckles on his little nose. I still haven't names him, so if you'd like to help, just suggest a name! ^-^


hey all!
I'm just wondering if there are any axolotl owners or fanciers on the arena. My parents have said that I might be able to own one in the near future, as long as I get and stay organized.
I have been interested in owning one for about a year now, after somehow finding videos of them on youtube. I've been reading a lot about them online and find them fascinating (and super cute!  ).
So, does anyone here own an axolotl and could give me some tips on care and keeping of these awesome amphibians? Or does anyone else find them interesting?

They're like real Mudkips!! To be honest, I really thought they were scary looking as a kid. All clear, beady little eyes and those gilly thingys.

I used to think they were weird too, but they've really grown on me. And, they do look like real mudkips! I never thought about that before!

I don't know much about them, but I find them adorable I've always liked salamanders too!

I love obscure creatures, and have been a fan of Axolotles for many years. Looking them up on Wikepedia, more amazing facts were revealed to me.  Their wonders never cease!

I looked up 'Toy Axolotl' on Google to see what was out there, and have a look! Lots of hand crochet/felted/knitted cuddly Axolotl goodness without the fear of getting damp!

They are adorable, but I am very opposed to keeping endangered animals as pets. I´m more of a spider person so I´m not sure if axolotls are captured in the wild and sold as pets as many tarantulas are, but I urge anyone interested in keeping them as pets to do due research on origin of their potential pet

The ones sold as pets are bred and raised in captivity, in laboratories or by hobbyists. I am personally planning on buying one from a hobbyist/breeder in the US, so I know exactly where he or she is coming from.
 Axolotls are endangered because their habitat, which is only two small lakes in Mexico, is being destroyed, due to draining of one of the lakes, and waste from Mexico city being fed/dumped into the other. Really, Captive axolotls are the only chance we have at bringing the species back.
I wouldn't purchase an axolotl if they were being taken out of the wild to be kept as pets, I don't really condone that either.
