My dolls are mixed in with my ponies and dolls- I'll have to get a more recent pic-

I JUST GOT MY BOX FROM THE ENTERTAINER! So happy!!!  Wow- the candy dolls are so dang cute!  It seems like Carmela and Doe a Deer are by far the most popular in this very last series of dolls- although my favorites are these girls- I like Doe a Deer but don't have her yet- and Justina will probably look better with a better wig...

I really didn't NEED these dolls- but had to have them.  It seems like these will be the very last Novi Stars to be made- and given the incredibly limited release, I don't think there were a ton made- so if I suddenly NEED to have them in a few years- I suspect they will be near impossible to get (the last few dolls in a dead line always seem to be difficult to lay hands on later).   For that reason- I actually got two sets of the Candy girls since I really want to de-box at least once set.  But I've realized that I really don't have that kind of room- so I tossed the two extras up on ebay

Galactica, if you're right about these girls being the ABSOLUTE last of the line I need to get them for my collection NOW!  I was going to wait till after the fair, but it's gonna be a pain having to spend an exorbitant amount for them later on the secondary market.  Your girls are gorgeous BTW!  I Frostina's whole look!

And it appears these dolls are definitely the end of the road for Novi Stars-  MGA said last year they weren't making any more (which is so sad since I love their cute weird style so much!)

Those 4 that popped up in Russia (Justina, Doe, Frostina, Carmela) came out shortly after that announcement - so they were probably already in production when the line got cut.  The fact that the dolls only went to the Russian Federation and The Entertainer (who specializes in picking up close outs and old stock) pretty much confirms this-  probably not a lot of dolls were made at the time the line was cancelled, so the dolls that had been made were sold at a discounted rate just just a couple of places.  (It may also be why they never made stands for this group)

It does make me want to keep them NRFB since they will no doubt be hard to lay hands on one day- but I just don't have the space anymore

I bought a doe from the go on the MHARENA. I'm not completely in love with her. I like her well enough but I'm not sure if I wanna keep her. So if anyone is intrested just let me know.

That is very nice of you! I'd take you up on that offer for sure- except that Stripeycat from the MHarena also helped me get one- (yay!)


I just bumped into this flickr profile that has a bunch of pictures of the marketing photos of the prototypes.  (https://www.flickr.com/photos/59582287@N06/)  she put together pictures of the prototypes and final product together- so you can see the changes that were made.  Pretty neat- except that they are also a bit painful. Most all of the prototypes are really much more detailed and gorgeous than the final products- especially Roe and Tilly who are FULLY JOINTED!!!!

That kills me. I would have killed to have this doll in jointed form... the final product is super cute- but wow, she could have been 100x better with wrist, hand and knee joints...

It's super disappointing but unsurprising Prototypes are made long before the product has to be mass-produced and they obviously realise once that becomes a factor that it's too expensive to mass-produce a toy that detailed (though, at the full price of £20 a go I reckon they could have tried a bit harder). Ponies are the same, and so are Japanese figures, and yeeah when you look at what could have been ....

Also sometimes it's not about cost but about durability. Some of those joints look really fragile.

I do think price played into it-  I think that the cost of making these figures went into the inset eyes, unusual designs, varied molds, crazy hair, and "pets" - rather than into the joints. Also MGA is smaller than Mattel, so the cost of production is higher for its figures.

Still, I wish they had done jointed figures.

Since this line is not going to be making new dolls- I am looking forward to making my own customs- just bought a bunch of Mega Man figures- with a plan to make some boy dolls.  I can't wait to see how they turn out
