Rare Molly dolls with color hair?
« on: May 24, 2012, 06:50:27 PM »
Somewhere in my collector guide books (the ones by Debra L. Birge) mentions something about Molly dolls released out of the U.S that came with pony friends (like the camel, giraffe)....and had colored hair to match that of the friends.

If its not from the book, then I read it from a G1 MLP source.

The camel has purple hair, so Molly would have purple hair.

I have never, ever seen these, just blonde Molly. Does anyone here have one? Are they even real? I would love to see them! I don't want to buy, I just want to see.

From what I can remember reading on here is that that was a set that was never actually released.  There are advertisements of it but they were never actually put into production passed prototypes.

They were (probably handmade) prototypes only, and never released at retail. So there may be ONE example of each in existence, but most likely they're either at Hasbro or were thrown out when the set was canned.  No pictures of them have ever surfaced at least, outside of the promo catalog.

It's also notable that a prototype Baby Sundance was shown without BBE too.  (And she's so much cuter too!!!)

Anyway, I just dug up some pictures for ya from the old Arena.

Photo number one is from LadyMoondancer - it's an old Argentinian poster she had:

Wow, Baby Sundance's symbol looks awesome! And I guess calling the animals Pony "Friends" makes a lot more sense now!

Didn't they get re-used as Moondreamers toys?

As far as we all know, these have never been officially released, let alone found by any collectors. There was a photo in an old catalogue of the different Molly dolls with their respective pony pets, as well as a first-toothed version of Baby Sundance that has also yet to be discovered.
I believe someone on this forum made custom Molly dolls inspired by these prototypes.
