Any tips for getting rid of "saddle sore"
« on: May 09, 2012, 03:10:16 PM »
Now that I have identified that these mysterious red marks probably are "saddle sore" from red plastic accessories, how do I get rid of them?

I checked in the cleaning thread...there was a picture identifying it...but not really any cleaning instructions.  Is sunfading the best way?  how do I do that when one of the marks is right next to their eyes?

The pictures aren't really clear, but if this are indeed such marks I believe only sunfading will help.

have you TRIED using acetone on them? at least the parts that are not covering eyes or symbol? it just looks so dark and seems more like paint to me xD but I cant be sure.

I wish I could do that with Mimic. T_T She's perfect apart from those awful marks.

Yeah, I thought the same at first, because the pics are so strange. The way it looks on them it looks like marks that could possibly be taken off by acetone, while the description makes me think only sunfading will help.. so I dunno ;-)

I would guess the slightly odd colour is because these look like "scans" rather then photographs...thats probably whats throwing off the colour.

As others have said if it is saddle/bridle burn sunfading is the only hope - but it can get pretty deep into the plastic so dont expect a quick reaction!

Yes they are scans.  Forgot to mention that.  I don't have pure acetone....but I do have nail-polish remover.  Would that work?

I got Moonstone second hand...so I'm not completey sure what the red marks are on that one, but Blueberry Baskets is from my childhood collection...and I NEVER used marker/paint/whatever on ponies, so I'm assuming it's saddle sore...and it looks the same as what's on Moonstone, so...yeah.

My question is how to sunfade when the mark is so close to the eye, which I don't want to fade.

You need to cover her eye and any part you are not sun fading....here is a link to a great sunfading tutorial

http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,288060.msg70470.html#msg70470

If it is saddle sores - which if its not pen or regrind it must be - then due to how deep the stain gets into the plastic sun fading is pretty much your only bet...acetone wont work on it.

Thank you. Bookmarked that page.  I've never tried to sunfade before, (although a good number of my collection might benefit from it) but I'm scared to do anything that might end up doing more harm than good. XD;

But those red marks are annoying. XD

Ok..they're in the window now...hair, eyes, and symbol covered...Along with Tickle, who has a black mark on his leg (probably from the ink that was on the price tag when I got him. (Tickle and Moonstone are both guys in my herd)) that failed to come out with nail-polish remover.  I've never done this before, and I don't know how much sun they will get in my window...but it does get sun in the morning and evening, so...

I'm not sure why I'm even bothering with Moonstone...he's so bait-y anyway (cancer on his side, chew marks, symbol is almost gone, plus the aformentioned red marks) but....*shrug* Also, Moonstone is kinda greasy...(hard to get the blue masking tape to stick)  Any way to get rid of that?

Sounds like poor Moonstone has her plasticiser leaking...you can wipe her down [I use baby wipes] to remove the residual but it will simply come back until all the plasticiser is all gone - one say she ll be brick hard but no longer "greasy"!!!

Several months later...they still have the red (and black in the case of Tickle) spots.  Just as bright as before (Blueberry's forehead spot MIGHT have faded a little...it's hard to tell...but her ear hasn't.)

This isn't really working.  I just don't get enough sun where I live. *sigh*
