Problems with ponies
« on: April 03, 2012, 01:39:39 PM »
So I have been thinking about this and I would love to make a list of ponies which a prone to cancer, regrind, discolouration etc. I want to know this because as a buyer I would like to know if 1 cancer spot is acceptable for a certain pony etc. Secondly if I am ever selling/ trading a pony I want to know the buyer is getting a good pony.
I know some issues can be subjective as there is always going to be someone  with a minty 'problem pony' and someone is always going to have a pony with cancer etc which isnt a 'problem' pony but it would be nice to know the worst affect ponies :)
I am going to list a few ponies that I know are prone to problems and it would be really cool if you know another to add it to the list. Some ponies have question marks cause dont know for sure if they are prone to these faults. Please correct me if you think otherwise.

Steamer- Regrind, fading hair
4 Speed- cancer, discolouration, fading hair (pink strip)
Barancle??- discolouration, cancer
Chief- Cancer
Slugger- Regrind
Thundercloud- head/ body mismatch, cancer
Sunburst- leaching hair, cancer

Lucky???? cancer

Gees poor boys!

Beach ball, wave runnuner, sand digger set- frizzy hair

Baby tictactoe??? Discolouration, cancer
Baby quacker, quackers- Discolouration

Gingerbread- Cancer, discolouration
TE Sky rocket ??? head/ body mismatch
TE sweet stuff- cancer
TE party time- regrind
Speedy- cancer/regrind(?)
Tic-Tac-Toe - age spots/cancer
Galaxy- cancer
Whizzer -cancer

Some of the sparkle ponies discolor badly, Star Hopper, Sky Rocket, Twinkler in particular.

Highflier ???Slight head and body mismatch
Cloud Puff- regrind.

Sea ponies- cancer, moldy bodies
Changing coloured seaponies- get stuck on one colour

Ringlets (Brush n' Grow)- discoloration/cancer
Bouquet (Brush n' Grow)- discoloration/cancer

Bow-tie, Posey, Baby Crumpet, Scoops, TAF Fifi (and probably loads more) are all prone to having their symbols fade/discolor.
light pink hair fades (Posey, Lickety-Split, Baby Cotton Candy, etc.).

All of the seaponies have rust and/or mold issues.
The white seaponies are prone to cancer issues.
Party Time (right? The orange TE...) has major regrind problems and often plasticizer leakage.
Anything with a glittery symbol can get rusty symbols.
If you haven't received feedback from me, give me a nudge!

Could it be said that the white ones can change to yellow/cream unevenly, or is that just a duh thing?  'Cause I have had both happen as well as perfectly white ones.

Noticed that the colour changing streak in Wave Runner's hair is super frizzy. Haven't seen any other pony with that type of hair IRL, but the ones I've seen on pics have the same level of frizzyness.

As the G1s are all 20 to 30 years old...I think its fair to say almost every set has a pony or 2 with issues...from the broad ranging "fading pink hair" to the specific notorious regrind of Party Time...

Thats an interesting idea for a list though! Good luck....
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

All ponies with the light pink hair (Posey, Lickety-Split, Baby Cotton Candy, etc.) fade.
Cloud Puff is prone to regrind.
Speedy is prone to cancer/regrind(?).
I haven't seen too many cancer spotted Baby Quackers, but they are very prone to discoloration, period.
Quackers is very susceptible to discoloration/cancer.
Ringlets (Brush n' Grow) prone to discoloration/cancer
Bouquet (Brush n' Grow) is prone to discoloration/cancer
Bow-tie, Posey, Baby Crumpet, Scoops, TAF Fifi (and probably loads more) are all prone to having their symbols fade/discolor.

All white ponies can discolour but gingerbread and quackers are particular bad for the discolouration. Maybe they used a different plastic for them? Normal if you put a pony in the sun for a while the plastic turns white again but in my experience gingerbread and quakers never turn white again : (

I argee TE do have problems!

Thanks for the input so far : )

Speaking of problems in the sun, Starshine can turn brown if exposed to too much UV.   *has a toasted Starshine, who arrived in that state*

Edit: Cherry Treats too.  Don't try to sun-fade these gals!

Interesting idea for a list.  :)

Any white so soft (Truly, Scrumptious, etc) glue can yellow underneath, causing the pony to turn yellow. . .

I wonder what makes Barnacle so prone to cancer. It's a moisture thing, right? Did more kids place with him in the bath and leave him wet because he was a pirate? :O

No idea if she's a problem pony but I originally thought SS Angel was a yellow pony because every photo I had seen had yellowed glue. I was surprised at how blue she in deflocked photos.

The baby watercolour seaponies get stuck on one color or another and do not change color anymore.

Glad I read this about Cherry before I stuck her in a window.  Maybe I'll nick name her "Cherry Vanilla".  Any issues with sun and mom Apple Delight?
