Non-inavsive pony cleaning tips
« on: March 10, 2012, 03:58:49 PM »
So, my friend found this Masquerade last year at Salvation Army.  She didn't really think to clean her up but, when I was visiting her today, I mentioned that Masky could use a trip to the pony spa.  Knowing that I collect the older ponies and clean them up, she sent her home with me for a cleaning.  While this girl isn't exactly worse for wear, she could use a little work.  I'm deathly afraid of damaging her since she's not mine so I was wondering if you guys wouldn't mind sharing some non-invasive cleaning tips.

Here are some pictures:

The picture doesn't show it well (the lighting in my bedroom is terrible), but she has several little mould spots on her face.

I want to sunfade this unless there's something else I can do to remove it that won't take as long as sunfading.

She's one of my more wanted ponies, so the whole time I'm cleaning her I'll have to tell myself, "I can't keep her, I can't keep her, I can't keep her, etc..." xD

I hate to disappoint, but sunfading is the only thing I know that works!

Hrm...she looks like she's had a bit of a tail trim.  Maybe it's just the angle.

A favorite cleaning tool of mine is a Mr. Clean magic eraser.  That thing works wonders!  It won't take pen off though, only sun fading is able to tackle that.  Make sure to stear clear of symbols and eyes though with the eraser.  It WILL take those off.  Also a good shampoo and conditioner never hurts.  Just wrap the tail around the bottom hoof, and the mane around the neck.  Secure with a strip of napkin and rubber band.  :)

Yep, she's had a tail trim.

Will the Magic Eraser do anything for the spots on her face or am I going to have to decapitate her and clean inside her head?

No, that's pindot mold.  Sadly there's not much to do about that I'm afraid.  There are some treatments, but I honestly she never attempted them.  They can discolor the plastic around the spots.  :(

Heres a tutorial, but if you use remove-zit be careful.  I can discolor ponies

It's hard to tell from the picture, but I doubt the mold spots are coming from the inside. Have you tried just soap or toothpaste and a gentle scrubbing to clean her? It's not like they're that fragile. And I can't tell what the writing it in, but sometimes rubbing alcohol helps...usually not, but it can't hurt to try. Also, maybe I just can't tell, but her eyes look really nice!

I've used a Magic Eraser over eyes and symbols and they haven't done a thing to them, besides clean off the gunk. o.O

I would avoid them from now on.  It will remove them.  ;)
