Periwinkle, first custom - by SweetMelons
« on: February 19, 2012, 07:06:26 PM »
My friend gave me a Pony Bride in the hopes I could do something with her.
She'd been chewed and scratched and had a lot of odd marks.
I did my best to rescue her, but my knowledge of pony repair didn't stretch far enough to fix her.

So I took some inspiration from some Danish China (Royal Copenhagen) and customised her instead:

Feedback will be much appreciated. Please be completely honest. I won't bite  ;)

I think she looks lovely. The braided hair is unique and I like it.

Thanks :) The hair is really just braided, because I needed it out of the way at first, and I can't resist styling hair ^^ I'll probably undo it at some point and try something different, but for now I quite like it this way.

I love her designs!  I could tell exactly what she was based off of when I first saw her, very well done!

Oooh! How did you get such pretty braids? *o* I wanted to do that with one of mine...but I can't seem to get the hair to stay in a braid well. What did you use to secure the braids?

Thank you for being so lovely all of you ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I'm really quite proud of her, and I'm so pleased you all like her.
Oooh! How did you get such pretty braids? *o* I wanted to do that with one of mine...but I can't seem to get the hair to stay in a braid well. What did you use to secure the braids?
On the mane, I grabbed a section of hair of about 4-5 plugs and braided it very tightly, holding the pony between my legs, so the hair was constantly taut.
To secure it at the end I've actually sewn it. I can sketch a little tutorial if you want.
It's fairly simple, holds tight, doesn't damage the hair, no matter how long it stays, and is easy to undo too (you just pull a few strands out and it loosens it all, so you can pull the thread off).

To keep the braids together at the bottom I wrapped some silver wire around it, and curled the ends to make it more elegant.
It won't rust, but it might leave some marks if kept in for too long, so I'll replace it with ribbon eventually. Ribbon is always good.

Hope this was helpful :)
