A stage version of TLU sounds quite interesting!  I'm also curious about how they will bring the unicorn to life!  Well, any of the non-human characters actually.  The red bull (it's supposed to be a massive creature too, at least in the book), the cat, the harpy... lots of challenges!  Lots of possibility, too.

True. Hmm, it should be interesting! I suspect that the Harpy, at least, will just be a prop that flies over the stage. They could possibly even do her with some really fancy lighting effects and no actual prop. Hmm, lots of possibilities, indeed!

Can you imagine if the unicorn was played like the horse in War Horse? Striking white with fully black-clad puppeteers? *Sigh* Yes, I would go abroad to see that!

That would be fantastic!  And maybe harpy could be a puppet like the War Horse goose - I always thought that whole show had the most impressive puppetry I've ever seen.

Oh wow this is amazing news! I too will start saving... especially since Broadway isn't very close to me so I will need to do some traveling to see it. But this book has been my inspiration to be a writer ever since I was a young girl--I must see this someday! I wonder if they will have any of the America songs...

I met Peter S. Beagle at Otakon last year. He goes to anime conventions to sell his books and also prints from artists who have done illustrations for the book. (Along with the original novel, there's a graphic novel version of the book plus a graphic novel 'special edition' with more content. And there's a few other books he's written as well.)

He seems like a very nice guy but when I told him how I loved the dedication of the book because it talks about a man who saw a wild unicorn in Maine, which is where I'm from, Peter Beagle told me that he dedicated the book to that man because he was a charlatan who just made stuff up. Kinda crushed the innocent starry-eyed girl in me, at the time. I laugh about it now though.

As much as I LOVE The Last Unicorn, I'll stick with the original garish Mia Farrow and Jeff Bridges renditions... LOL. Only America can sing this soundtrack in my eyes as well.

I think the only way this production could retain some dignity would be if they employed the same puppetry used in War horse.   I'm just worried that the most beautiful film ever made could translate into a cheesy contrived musical.

Yep, I met him at Dragon*Con. He did one of the live commentary/showings of TLU there, too, and it was AMAZING. One of the best experiences of my live. I now have tons of stuff signed by him, too.

This is actually how I came to be on his mailing list and able to pass this info along.

Now wouldn't it be cool if we could get him to come to one of the Pony Fairs.
