Buyer on ebay opened a case against me.
« on: September 26, 2013, 01:01:12 PM »
I am so sick of eBay right now. I had a buyer open an item not received case against me. They didn't even contact me first just opened the case. I shipped to the address provided and it was delivered. Will I be out the money because they didn't have the right address?

You can see here that the item was delivered. 9400109699939272249008

I just don't know what to do and its making me sick to my stomach.

Since you have a tracking number that says it was delivered, you should be safe.

How do you know that it wasn't the correct address? It's the buyers responsibility to make sure that their shipping information is correct and up to date. So you shouldn't be responsible for anything in regards to that. You have proof that it was delivered to the address that you were provided.

I called eBay right away and since I had the tracking they closed the case in my favor. Shew I shouldn't get so stressed but I've never had someone open a case against me. I always strive to do the best I can.

Sword you should be ok, don't worry.  Just respond to the case with the tracking and number and all should go in your favor.

A similar scenerio just happened to poor Shenanigans and she won her case.  :cheer:

I guess all hope isn't lost with eBay yet. Although I do wonder sometimes.

This *really* burns me up that buyers are doing this, when there's PROOF that they received their item!   Was it a pony item you sold them?   Would you mind PM'ing me their ebay ID so I can block them for any auctions I put up?

I think this is not entirely the case.  I have had packages that never reached me but showed delivered on the tracking.  That either means they mismarked it or took it to the wrong house.  Its not my fault and its not the sellers fault, but the seller will win whether I actually have my item or not.  I went to every neighbor looking for a box once.  They all  denied having it.  I couldn't even bother with opening a case because it says it was delivered but it never reached me. This happens all of the time.  Not all buyers are telling lies and trying to get money for nothing.  This legitimately happens.  I have never gotten ponies, pony accessories and Sea Wees due to the PO making these types of mistakes. I lost my money and never got my item.  Why do we always assume a buyer is lying about these things?  Maybe they are not.
Flip side of that though is that like I said before its no one's fault if this does happen but its sad the buyer has no way to prove their item is lost in these situations so why bother opening a case. I never blame a seller in this situation.  Its that crazy carrier out there. >_<

This happens all of the time.  Not all buyers are telling lies and trying to get money for nothing.  This legitimately happens.

I've had this happen too. I have an address similar to a corrections facility down the street and our mail has (as couple of times) gotten on the wrong route. Because of security issues, the prison doesn't send misdelivered mail back to the area post office -- it goes to the city's sorting unit and gets sent back to the sender.

So yes, I understand it happens.   But the thing that makes me suspicious is that the case was opened so soon after the package was delivered, and that the buyer didn't try to find out what happened by contacting the seller.  Even if you're a newbie, when you open a case, ebay instructs you to contact the other person first.   And why open a case without trying to find out what happened to your package....unless you either didn't care about your package, or you know exactly where it is and are trying to get something for free.

I guess I'm suspicious about things like this.  My husband is in the toy collecting world and this happens MUCH more frequently with boy toys sold on ebay.   There are a lot of dishonest people out there. I'm willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt, but if someone doesn't even try to reach out to make things right, I'm keeping an eye on them.

I don't know why they opened the case so quickly and any thought I would have would all be speculation. I agree that communication before opening a case is very important for sure, it does look better if contact is made and a conversation about what to do is started.  The fact that didn't happen could be for many reasons.  We also know that cases are easy to open now days even if it wasn't your plan. How do you know they didn't try to contact the seller through the system and because of not clicking on "other" a case was opened?  With the way things are set up on ebay that happens a lot now.  I really don't know what this buyer is doing or why they did what they did, but it is resolved now and that is what is important.

I am sorry you went through all of this Sword.  I am glad its all resolved now.  I just know from being a buyer that had a tracking number marked delivered when I never got my item..that's hard.  As hard as that is though, I couldn't hold a seller responsible for something the post office lost when I have no proof its lost due to poorly handled tracking.  I don't know why they didn't contact you, but I wonder if the case was an automatically opened one because they didn't click "other" to contact you. I have no proof of that and since its over there is no point in trying to find out either.  I don't want to take this thread off topic. :)

That's probably a wise idea since it already happened  ;) So with that I am going to lock this up since it's solved.
