Cute Baby Mantis!

That is so great of you! I've never seen one so small. Here's hoping for a successful woodland release.

Last summer I played with a little mantis, about 4", that was on the deck behind work. If I moved toward it it would puff up & make this tiny wheezy/hissy noise & I just couldn't stop giggling at it. I mean, I'm only about 4000% bigger than it, I'm surprised it saw me as anything but landscape!

I don't think I'd be brave enough to hold that guy in my hand but I'm glad you took him to a nice new home.  Bugs are okay, so long as they are far from me!

That little guy is adorable. It was very kind of you to bring him home and release him somewhere he will have a chance to survive. I love mantises. They are my favorite bugs.

The swaying "dance" is a form of camouflage. To mimic foliage moving in a wind, it helps protect them from predators. And allows them to sneak up on food.

Glad you can give this little one a good home. Though like most young insects, they are quite capable of living on their own from hatching.

Course it ate the head first, easier to keep the prey item from getting away.
