Cute Baby Mantis!

My friend found this guy crawling out of a box in our freight! I felt so bad for this lil nymph being in a polluted city that my husband and I took him home! We live right next to a heavily planted forest where we can release him! Poor lil dude doesnt belong in a nasty super populated city with no plants and next to no food. We took him home with us and we are keeping him in a medium sized critter keeper with some plants, coconut fiber bedding, and lots of fruit flies to eat! I am remembering to mist him/her for humidity and so this little cutie can get something to drink. I am really enjoying his company! He is super friendly, loves to jump, "dance", and the way he sits on my finger... he looks like a little anime character! I have never seen a spunky little critter like this before!

We want to get more information on this little one before we decide to release this one to the wild. We think this little one is a Chinese Mantis, one of the most common species in the United States. Its legal to keep them in captivity and release them back in the wild. We cant tell if this is a male or female... any bug experts here!? I also want to know which instar this one is at, I was thinking L2 since he is so tiny but not quite a hatchling?

So we got the cute little critter something to eat! OMG was he/she hungry!!!! There are tiny crickets and plenty of annoying little fruit flies in there. One time he snatched 3 of them up at once! Another time the nymph just ate a fruit fly whole! Its so wicked watching mantids eat! ^3^ Poor little baby was probably in that box for days without food!

Thank you, I will always help an animal in need! Im glad he is indoors with me today, its 102 degrees Fahrenheit outside he might fry even in the forest! I hope it cools down soon so I can let him go outside.

I've honestly never seen a baby mantis, but he has got to be the cutest little thing. I love bugs :)
