Anyone have their tonsils out?

I have not had a tonsillectomy, but it has been suggested to me before by an ENT specialist, when I went in a few years ago (regarding a different matter entirely).  I had issues with chronic tonsillitis all through-out my childhood (which my parents ignored), and now as an adult, my right tonsil is very large and juts out, practically blocking the passage to the back of my throat.   My left tonsil mostly shriveled up, like the good little tonsil it it, lol.   

Oh, the bad breath and the tonsil stones... ARGH!   Most of them I am able to squeeze out with a Q-tip, fun times.

I would get a tonsillectomy, but I am not employed or on insurance right now, so it is one of those "wait till then" sorts of things.  *sigh*

I had the exact same problem with my right tonsil it was swollen all the way to the middle of my throat and I could hardly eat or swallow so I had to have the surgery. Well worth it though and I have not had any problems since then Very spendy though thank god for insurance,it was almost $4,000 after all the specialists visits and actual surgery....yikes!

Im glad you made it through it and are doing well!!!!  I also found that eating anything dairy maked me feel worse, and I got all phlemy... I had a ruptured gallbladder taken out, all four impacted wisdom teeth taken out, and nothing was compared to having my tonsils out. My Doctor told me that its worse that labor pains, I am just glad its over and done with.

I guess that the tonsils are very vascular, and when you get older the vessels grow.  So, they become full of blood. Thats why my Doctor couldnt just pull my tonsil stones out when they got to big. He told me that if he had cut my tonsils I would have bleed to death before I got to the hospital. So, I had to wait to get them surgically removed. It was a quick procedure, I was in and out in around five hours. I was dripping blood and staggering when they sent me on my way. Oh, how I love it when you dont have good insurance!!!  Like I said before I am glad I went through it all, and I no longer have tonsil stones. They were absolutly disgusting.

I did when I was pretty young because I kept getting a lot of sore throat problems (still do even tho they said I wouldnt) I dont remmeber much and I coudlnt eat any ice cream because I am allergic but I do remember I didnt even wanna eat! It hurt so bad I just slept a lot my mom rented us some movies but I slept through most of it thats all I remember!

Oh yea and I was able to go home the same day once I woke up

Glad you got it done and seem ok! Hope you heal quickly.  As other people said, it's well worth getting them out to avoid all the painful throat problems in the future.

i had it non stop for a few months, which is why i got mine out 14 years ago. just this year, i asked my dr to look and make sure none had been left behind, as i still get it all the time. i get the illness, just not the infected tonsils. but it feels exactly the same.

Bah, now that I am done with the antibiotics I developed oral thrush. Time for more meds.

Tonsillectomy last year    it was not a nice experience and well at 39 ! it was worth it ,It was recommended by my allergist Dr, he also corrected my nose, all this to fight Sleep apnea and allergies:) it worked
