Magic Eraser
« on: March 11, 2012, 12:10:50 PM »
Alright, I feel ultra dumb. I see people on here rave about the magic eraser all the time. I got a two pack  at the grocery store  a couple of weeks ago.... but it has done absolutely nothing! Is there some sort of "trick" to make it work well?

It only works on surface dirt, any stain that bleeds into the vinyl will not be removed by magic eraser.  A scuff can be smoothed out by using it dry. Sometimes dirt that is in the tiny little holes in the vinyl you cant see can be removed using the magic eraser, very hot water and oxy clean.  Some ponies I wouldn't recommend this like SS ponies.  Be careful with symbols and eyes as well.

I put water on a small piece of mine and squeeze it out and work with it damp.  If the stain doesn't come off then I know it was deep in the plastic and ME won't work on that.  What were you trying to do with it?

Make sure you fill the sponge with water. Totally saturate it. I get my best results with a totally saturated magic eraser :)

I've had pretty good results.   If it helps, keep in mind that it works a little like sand paper, it "sands" off the top most layer.  If you got things deeper than that you won't see a difference.

If I wanted to strip sloppily done factory paint off of plastic/vinyl, would Magic Eraser also work for that? Or would I need 100% acetone (kind of scared to use this)?

I don't think it will work on paint.  You will need acetone for that!

Actually with enough patience (and an extra strength magic eraser) it will wipe off the paint as well. That's why you have to be super duper careful around eyes/symbols with these things! :)

ACTUALLY, I've had it nearly remove the symbols on my BBE Gusty when I first tried it... I stopped right then and there :| I haven't tried it on any other ponies... Hmmmm looks like some baits are getting tested on!

I'm with you, I've used it a couple times and while it's worked great on removing stains from the wall, it hasn't done much to the ponies so far. For any really tough stains I use goof off.

Magic eraser is good when I need to, and can afford to be gentle, but acetone works a dream-- just be careful with it! I recommend using a q-tip or something else that allows you to be very precise about where you put it.

And don't worry, it's definitely not expensive. I've got a very large bottle for just a few dollars.

This is my order of gentleness when it comes to cleanig:
Dish detergent
Magic eraser
Acetone
