« on: February 08, 2015, 07:57:49 AM »
Well done! Great to have an up to date work reference after the 6 months so more chance of getting another job quicker, plus you never know this one might be extended or made permanent anyway, who knows what's down the line in 6 months?

I bought the dvd of the original film today! I had to sell a few LBT books and pvc ones on Ebay last year. Would love to see the soft toys though!

I only knew a horse with asthma (had a sort of nosebag nebuliser contraption that it used to get a dozy, happy, glazed expression with!), and a pony with hayfever, but no cats. Hope you get it sorted soon, I had visions of a poor little cat being asked to breathe into a Peak Flow Meter!

Off Topic / Re: Your Favorite Care Bears and Cousins
« on: January 16, 2015, 10:37:51 AM »
My fave Care Bear is Grumpy Bear. He was my first CB, when I went to see the Care Bears Movie in the early 80s, I bought the PVC mini of him dropping his ice cream. I also like Friend Bear, and Tenderheart bear, as I had the FB poseable and a PVC mini, and the 6 inch soft toy of Tenderheart bear in childhood. I sold them in the early days of Ebay, and bought replacements in recent years! I have bought and sold lots of vintage CB stuff on Ebay over the years, but will not get rid of those ever. Plus my friend's sister's bear that moved in with my bears.
I like Braveheart Lion as my fave CB cousin. I have never seen any of the later CB cartoons or films, and don't want to! I like to keep my childhood memories intact!

Off Topic / Re: Musicals and broadway theatre! Favourite shows?
« on: January 14, 2015, 02:39:43 AM »
I love musicals, although we dont have Broadway, we have the West End over here! Not usually into the Rogers and Hammerstein ones, prefer Lloyd Webber and Cole Porter/Irving Berlin type ones.
I have collected West End programmes and brochures for years, for my fave shows, and ones that include my fave stage star. Live several hundred miles from West End so don't get there very often, and have to see tours mainly.
My personal fave musicals I've seen a lot are:
Me and My Girl  (and any 1930s ones that are funny, not cheesy)
Les Mis (Sets and singing talent amazing)
Hot Shoe Shuffle (Love tap dancing!)

Ones I love but haven't seen on stage and wish I had are Sunset Boulevard and Miss Saigon.

Last ones I saw were The Jersey Boys at the West End, and the touring version of 'Buddy' and 'Hairspray'.

I graduated uni years ago, and I may be behind the times, and it depends on the uni city you are moving to, but if your halls of residence are near campus I'd recommend them, I ended up renting in the second year with a group from my flat in halls. At least you know you won't get ripped off with accomodation if it is uni owned, or at least on the Uni student union's 'recommended' list, and there might be people from your course nearby, makes a difference when you're walking back from lectures when it's dark. Lots of people join various societies at the Freshers Fair at the beginning of term, but end up only sticking with one.
See if you can find out the reading list, or last years, read the website of your department and email questions to them if need be.
Do your research on places of interest where you're moving too, so you don't just stick with campus but become a bit of a local too, and fit in more. Find out what's free to do, where the cinemas and theatres are, museums, parks, etc. Nearer the time, figure out the cheapest supermarkets, or cheapest ones that deliver online. Share a taxi with flatmates to supermarkets.
Don't take too much stuff with you, lots of things (like crockery) you can get at £ shops when you are there, and you might end up with a small room and you don't want it cramped, especially if inviting friends round.
It all depends where you are studying though, let us know and some locals might be at hand to give advice!

The Dollhouse / Re: PC/ID: Cabbage Patch Doll 1999?
« on: November 27, 2014, 10:29:02 PM »
You got a softie? Wow! Soft Sculptures aren't sold over here, I have 4 of various ages. Unless it was a special edition they just wore normal baby clothing, so he can wear whatever he wants! He can have his eyes repainted at Babyland General if needed. I'm a bit out of touch with Softie editions, ask at one of the CPK clubs like the CPKCC or Open Cabbage. What size is he? That can give softie collectors clues on what edition he was.

Saw it on Thursday eve when it opened, and on Sunday afternoon as I had a free ticket! Consistently good films, been a fan of the books for many years, not many changes to the book, mainly minor characters being ommitted here and there. Was genuinely shaken when the hospital was bombed, and when all in District 13 were in the bunker and the ceiling was cracking it made me feel so shaky and claustrophobic even though I was in a large cinema!

The Dollhouse / Re: Any Barbie collectors?
« on: November 05, 2014, 09:47:19 AM »
I only collect ones from charity shops, and only collect black fashion dolls and similar sized pop singer ones and action figures (who won't admit they are dolls too!), they're in a box ready to move now so can't post pics. Have quite a few of the usual Christie types, a Kenyan Barbie, a few from boybands and Disney musical high school films I won't admit to owning! I wish the female dolls didn't have such scary skinny necks though, and would be nice to own a few Barbie type dolls with more of a shape to them, so could customise them in more costumes.
DaffyDilly, years ago I made my dad for his birthday and Christmas an action figure dressed in his old Kings Troop dress uniform, (felt, and leather made from felt covered with pva glue!) and also a soldier in Cromwellian gear as my dad used to be in a civil war reinactment society. Not very well made, but dad loved them!

Gorgeous, love the feathering round the feet. One of my childhood Sindy horses has a very sparse tail, but I haven't dared tackle rehairing it yet!

A bronzed leaf pendant or something, they wouldn't do too many beads on their jewellery. Oh no.

Most CB I've ever found in one go is 2! That's amazing, if I'd seen that lot in one go I'd not be able to part with them, since it's an instant perfect collection. Well done!

« on: August 14, 2014, 11:58:48 AM »
I don't do facebook, but nice to see more 80s collectors! I'm a CPK collector who also collects Pound Puppies, and has collected MLP in addition to my existing childhood ones,  and replacement-for-childhood SSC and Care Bears! Have downsized my collections, but 80s toys are the best, oh yes. I have sold quite a few on Ebay, but can't keep ones not in my specific collections. One day will own a token Popple, and Glo Worm,  but haven't decided which.

Do your research, ask questions that relate to certain disabilities, ask about meds training, manual handling, etc, seem interested. Show a sense of humour, and if nervous of the people interviewing you, imagine them sat on the toilet!

I last watched him in online clips of when he appeared in the American version of 'Who's Line is it Anyway', can't find a link though. Look it up, it's his quick  sense of humour at his fastest!

'Mork and Mindy' got me through my A-Levels, and provided me with a range of lifelong catchphrases. Off to read my 'Mork and Mindy' annual now!
