Customs / Custom No-nos
« on: May 23, 2015, 10:00:18 PM »
Ever committed one of the custom no-nos?
I thought we could all share blunders we made when customizing.

I made this custom a while ago and I wanted her to have Glow-hair but all the places were sold out, so I was looking into alternatives. I was eventually convinced that I could paint the hair as long as I brushed it a lot I could get it soft again. So I painted the white hair I had all ready put on the custom with Glow in the Dark fabric paint. You can imagine it got horribly crusty, I ended up having to completely remove all the hair and make the custom with sculpted hair instead.

Oh gosh, concerned pony custom.... I need to keep that in mind that you have that mold because I might want one after I take care of other stuff.

I meant what brands did you use. I always give my bait a quick wipe down with acetone to remove any mold release (make sure you wash it after) and that helps the paint stick. Also I use Windex to thin my paint, instead of water which seems to help with adherence. Make sure you let every layer completely dry before the next and I would even suggest waiting a full 24 hours after the last layer before adding sealant.

Could you tell us which paints and varnished you used? Also how did you prep your bait?

I did, it was relatively easy but I do wish I had taken more time to smooth out the sculpy that I used to reattach them.

Customs / Big Mac--> Night Guard Progress

I posted a Funco Big Mac that I had taken apart a while back and he is finally back on the crafting table and man is it proving to be an undertaking.

The commissioner decided that they didn't want fetlocks (the armor will be removable) so I have been trying to cover up the ones that are in the plastic. I think I have it figured out but the bag legs proved to be a challenge since they are closer together, I really wish all the pony toys had a little more distance between the legs TT^TT

I'll update this thread as I add more work to this guy.

They all look really great! I would love to know how you did the water pony, since I have been wanting to get a Luna one, but I want her to have better hair.

Darth Sideous (Sid for short)
I forgot I had pictures of my boys as bussiness cats, they are both from the shelter and Dante is around 6 or 7, Sid is 7 or 8. I adopted Dante first and then a year later my boyfriend got me Sid.

This is a custom I finished a few weeks ago but I couldn't post it till it traveled from the US to Denmark. She used to be a Pinkie Pie before I took her apart and repainted her. I bought an extruder recently and I have to say, I love using it for how I do hair.

Pony Brag Arena / Re: Cutie Mark Magic, Glamour Glow Rarity

Oh wow, I need her. I remember the other cutiemark ones where like Fluttershy's wings light up and Applejack moves her legs and I wasn't a big fan but I love Rarity. I wonder if there is a Pinkie Pie one.

Awww, what a cute couple, great job! I love the effect of Dimensional Magic on the lenses.
Thank you, I was really nervous about adding it because what if it didn't look good? I'm glad it came out well though.

Customs / Fable and Gifter customs
« on: February 26, 2015, 06:04:30 PM »
Made two customs for my friend and his girlfriend and I am pretty pleased with the result. I tried making flocking from yarn but it didn't come out fine enough. I also tried using ModPodge Dimensional Magic for the lenses of the glasses.
