Pony Corral / Re: It's finally happened

Dang, seven? I was only just getting into ponies at seven. :P

I think it's really likely that other kids she's around have started the "toys are for baabiieessss" phase (other kids did that to me at around 9) and she's responding to that. I'd honestly try talking to her about what's made her suddenly want to get rid of a big collection of toys. You might be able to use it as a starter for a talk on peer pressure, if that's what's happening? And definitely don't get rid of them yet, just tuck them away deep in storage and wait a while to see if her decision lasts. :)

Pony Brag Arena / A grail brag! For 10 year old me...

Ok, I know he's not exactly a particularly htf or expensive pony, but he was the first "old" pony I absolutely had to have, back when I just found out about g1 ponies at the tender age of 10, 10 years ago!

I present, the handsome Barnacle!

Have her, I quite like the look of her and Mochanut, compared to the other g3 babies ^.^

Princess Peppermint, I think... She's a gorgeous frosty red in real life, but in photos she always seems to turn into a washed out, glare-y mess

Pretty much anyone I'm comfortable enough with to have in my own little bedroom/bathroom area of the apartment I share with my mum already knows that I have a pony collection, but my friends still never fail to say something like "I know you said you had a lot, but I didn't expect THIS many!". And only about half of my collection fits on the shelf I have right now, the rest are in a plastic tote. :silly:

I'm pretty open about my interests with people. I'm very much a "those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind" type of person. I think being open about yourself makes it much easier to see who's worth your efforts.

Pony Corral / Re: The weirdest thing you have found in a pony?
« on: April 21, 2016, 01:58:41 AM »
More gross than strange, but I found a huge log of mold in a pony once. The entire tube running through my DnW Baby Cuddles was completely packed with a huge, solid log of black, fuzzy mold. I just yanked the whole tube out with pliers and threw it out in a sealed bag. I don't think I want anything to do with another drink n wet pony ever again after that...

There's a great tutorial for conditioning hair and keeping factory curl here:
http://www.mlppreservationproject.com/hair.html#Curls

Just use cool water for cleaning the rest of the pony and you shouldn't do much damage at all to their hairstyles.  :)

White vinegar is good for killing mold without damaging most materials, just spray some onto the case and let it sit for around an hour and then wipe it off. I've used it on dozens of ponies/accessories with no side effects except for the ponies smelling like chips for a few days

Pony Corral / Re: Saw Thundercloud in a Child's Toy Box Today!!!

While I think it's great that old toys are still being loved and played with by kids since they're toys first and foremost, I think there's also valid reason to be concerned about it? 30+ year old toys don't match up to today's safety standards regarding chemicals and I'd be concerned about undesirable things leeching out of the ponies from age related breakdown or heavy play wear and tear and onto the skin of a smaller, more vulnerable human.

Off Topic / Re: Anime Recommendations?
« on: April 17, 2016, 04:45:08 AM »
The two anime I'd recommend that seem to fit in with what you like would be Akatsuki no Yona (similar feeling to ATLA, and InuYasha to a slightly lesser extent), and Rurouni Kenshin (seems to share a lot of fans with InuYasha and Yu Yu Hakusho, I find.)  ^.^

Off Topic / Re: Is Attack on Titan Okay For Pre-teens?
« on: April 16, 2016, 08:39:39 AM »
If she can handle bloody stuff, the show is probably fine. I was watching shows that were just as gory or probably worse at age 12. :P

What I'd be cautious of is not letting her get too obsessed with it, for lack of a better word. The creator of the AoT manga has mentioned having some pretty cringeworthy views on Japan's part in the last century or so of world history, and Attack on Titan taking over the acronym "SNK" (from the Japanese title Shingeki no Kyojin) online has caused a lot of trouble for the gaming company, SNK Playmore, and AoT fans can get pretty nasty about those issues I find. So I'd suggest keeping an eye on  the influence she's getting from other fans if she's lucky enough to have friends who share her interests, rather than on the show itself. :)

Just a plain old thin rat tail comb for me! Sometimes I also use one of the combs out of the 2007 g1 repro packs, they're quite good as well. Always comb with conditioner though...

As for detangling but keeping original curls, I saw a tutorial once for that involving using cold water and laying the hair out on a towel to gently comb through the curls in a way that lets them bounce right back into shape? I can't for the life of me remember where that tutorial is, but the method works great for me.
