Salli has received her and reassured me nothing's broken, so here's the pony I made for her in the Halloween Swap this year.

Salli's form mentioned a lot of cool ideas, but the concepts of haunted, ghosts, and haunted houses really stuck out at me. I usually get ideas right away, but I was pretty stumped with this one, because I knew I wanted to do more than a haunted house symbol or ghost scene. The idea to turn her into a haunted house came after a few days sketching and thinking, so Ghouly Haunted [Salli, feel free to call her whatever you want!] was created!

How about some pictures, then details for those that want to know ^^

I can only use my computer in safe mode, so I couldn't put together my showcase or edit/watermark these at all, so I'll put the rest in a spoiler. I apologize if the size is huge, my screen is all stretched so I can't really tell what they're like :/ Pic heavy! ETA: Pics on IG as well, some the same but I think I used some different ones too! http://instagram.com/blackestbirdart

Formerly known as Ghouly Hunter, Ghouly was a paranormal investigator. Was, because she is now one of the paranormal she used to hunt. Heeding no warnings given to her, Ghouly visited the most haunted house in Ponyland, and in turn it haunted her. She intruded, and the house intruded back, taking over and making Ghouly a permanent fixture, as she became part of the haunted house. Be careful what you seek!

Base: Used to be a blue G3, I'm not sure who because I received her in a bait lot.
Hair: Forelock: Snowflake & Blizzard Mane/Tail: Hand-blended Black Magick, Raincloud,  Vampire Kiss, Venom, Hematite, & Moonlight.

I attempted my first pair of sculpted wings on this girl, and wow do I have a whole new level of respect for all you sculptors! One one side, the house is taking over her wings, so she has shingles in place of feathers.

Her body features sculpted wooden planks as the haunted house takes over in patches. When I think haunted house, a staple is rickety old boarded shutters, so I had to include them...and because I overcomplicate things for myself, they had to be functional. So she features sculpted shutters, on handmade hinges to reveal a spooky scene inside the pony-house! She also has a [not real] glass window on her display side, and some mossy areas throughout.

She also has mismatched eyes. One eye is all misty as the spirits of the haunted house possess her.

I hope everyone enjoys, but I'm so happy that Salli loves her newest addition to her herd! Thanks for looking!

Customs / [ W I D O W   Q U E E N * ] Private Swap with Roogna
« on: May 17, 2013, 06:59:58 PM »
Roogna and I did a spooky/Halloween-themed private swap. This is my half of the trade. The beautiful girl Roogna made for me can be seen here.

She is unnamed, I had no clue this time. I've just been calling her Widow Queen. She is a shadow-dwelling demon pony, making her home in the deep dark forests where she's met some special friends. Her spider companions began to worship her as their queen, and she is now very much a part of their home in the shadows.

She started out as a Kimono-pose Rainbow Dash. She received my first airbrushed FBR. I have a whole new level of respect for you pro airbrushers! I gave her a gradient too; the deep purple has splashes of red, and her hooves and back fade to black. I think a lot of this detail is unfortunately lost; I really made her purple a bit too dark. She also has a subtle shimmer. Her hair is a custom blend of nylon from Dollyhair: Black Magick, Moonlight, Blizzard, Cherry Pie, Vampire Kiss, Hematite, and I think a small amount of Twilight; I can't quite remember.

Her horns, headpiece, foreground tree branches, and little spider friends are hand-sculpted with Apoxie Sculpt. Again some detailing is lost with the dark body, but in the 'background' are more trees, accented with spider webs and a few swarovski crystals. These accent her eyes, which I attempted a slitted pupil look to make her look more demonic, and her little spider friends too.

First airbrush attempt, first sculpting attempt, I'd love to hear what y'all think! Thanks for looking

[Photographing her was very hard to do; her natural color was hard to pick up]

The Dollhouse / Skelita Calaveras: Help?
« on: January 24, 2013, 10:55:05 PM »
Hi everyone!

I was hoping someone could help me figure this out. My fiancé finally found Skelita for me; we've been looking forever, as she was a 'grail' doll for me. Turns out it was the only one, and the worker who found her for him - he asked him to look in the back for her, had never even seen her stocked either. I mention this because she has such a good faceup, yay! A little dot missing from her nose because of stupid box smears, but everything else is great.

But, there's something weird with her left hand, and I haven't seen anyone talk about it, so I'm confused. It seems like something similar to what goes on with Robecca's knees; I can't say for sure, because I don't have Robecca yet, but I know her knee joints are different to accentuate that she's a robot. My Skelita's left hand though, on the articulation point, it seems to be molded on, like it's part of the bone mold of her hand? Then, instead of the hand moving vertically on the articulation, it moves horizontally. And like, the left hand isn't as clean as the right hand, like its mold? They don't even look the same, because on her left hand it's slit on both sides. I hope this makes sense, I'll include a pic in a spoiler below, but I don't think it'll pick all that up. Now, if it's supposed to be like this, ok weird, but no big deal, but in browsing pictures, it seems like others have hands that move in the normal way. The really crappy thing though, is her hand is torn up around this weird side-to-side articulation point, like since her hands are softer to accommodate the delicate little bony fingers, the joint tore her hand up on the side a little and in particular on her palm.

I hope this makes sense, I feel kinda dumb trying to explain lol. Her hand can't move up and down though, not at all. I can twist it all around like normal, but its actual movement is horizontal, not vertical.

So, is this normal? I mean, I'm gonna contact Mattel since her hand is actually torn where it shouldn't be, but I'm really curious about this left hand.

Thanks!

Hi everyone!

This girly finally got to my partner, I've been dying to share her with y'all hehe! My partner was jelzar, and when I was reading her form, fairy/pixie really stuck out at me. I decided I'd make her a little candy pixie, so Trixie Treats was created!

She got a FBR in a custom color. Something I really like about a lot of the G3s is how they have the shimmer in their body plastic. I wanted to recreate that since I was making a pixie pony, but I didn't want it to be overpowering. So she's got a light shimmer using metallic silver paint.

She's rehaired in a custom blend of Black Magick, Sour Grapes, Moonlight, Blizzard, and Twilight, with her bangs/forelock done in a custom blend of Sour Apple Martini and Key Lime. The main blend was a little more obvious before I did the curls, but I thought the curls would be really fitting for a playful little pixie. ^^ Here's a little WIP that shows the blend before curling.

Her symbol is duplicated on both sides. She's accented with a few Swarovski rhinestones. Her wings were made with printed transparency film and Angelina film, and I accented them with glitter and a few more Swarovski rhinestones. My first try at wings! I also sent a little bag I made along with her, so she can go trick or treating - her name is a play on that ^^

She's only my fifth custom, and my first custom in a couple of years - well, since the Halloween Swap in 2010 actually! I was pretty proud of her, and am very happy to hear my partner loves her!

Onto pics!

Customs / Seeking: Sour Apple Martini Nylon Hair
« on: August 12, 2012, 05:36:18 PM »
Hey lovelies!

I'm in need of a hank of Sour Apple Martini nylon hair. I have a small amount left over, but I don't think it's gonna be enough, but the sites are out of it, and I'd really prefer its brightness over Key Lime.

Does anyone have a spare hank they could sell me? I'm located in the US. I'm actually gonna be ordering 1 hank of Black Magick, 1 hank of Blizzard, and 1 hank of Sour Grapes, so ideally, if you had those on hand and would be willing to sell, I could just buy them all off you instead of going through the sites if I already need to outsource for the Sour Apple Martini.

Thank you! Just send me a pm if you can help me out

Customs / Show Me: Customs with open mouth poses!
« on: August 08, 2012, 02:12:24 PM »
Hey ponies!

I'm searching through G3 poses, and I'm leaning toward using the Waterfire or Heather Winds pose - possibly would use Seaspray too. I want one with an open mouth I think, so that's why I've narrowed it down to these. Sometimes poses look SO much better on customs than the regular ponies though, so that's where y'all come in!

Can I please see your G3 open-mouthed customs - preferably these poses, but if you have others that I haven't thought of, show me!

[While I'm at it, are there certain ponies in these poses that SHOULDN'T be baited? I'd be looking for a Heather Winds in that pose, and wouldn't want to bait a Seaspray, she's so pretty :3]

Thank you!

Arts & Crafts Corral / Queen Chrysalis
« on: July 23, 2012, 12:45:19 AM »
Hey ponies!

It's been a while since I've been around, but I've missed the pony boards! :lovey:

I've had this sketched up since watching the MLP: FIM season 2 finale, and over the last few days I've finally gotten around to coloring it. Queen Chrysalis has such an awesome design, I was itching to make a picture of her. Eventually I'd like to make a custom of her too, even thought it's been done several times now ;D I did a real background this time too!  :whoa:

This is the first time I've done a more 'freehand' piece - I usually use ink my lines, but I wanted to try to do without this time. I think I'm pretty please with the result, although some places seem a bit too flat. Also, I know most of the changelings are missing their eyes - it was intentional ;D

It's also on my dA page. Hope y'all like it, this was a fun one!
