Looks like WeLoveFine wants a piece of Funko's blind box business!

Like most of WeLoveFine's vinyl Pony offerings, they are very stylized! I think that they're pretty cute little things, but I'm really only interested in :muffin: pony because I collect her. For that reason, I'm bummed out that they are blind boxed, since I figure the trading pool will be relatively small on these given their cost and lack of retail presence.
What do you all think? Yay? Nay? Hooray? They're okay?

As the comments later in the thread reveal, these are no longer to be sold as "blind box" toys. Hooray!

I already like them better than Funko's blind boxes because they're in different poses and I love the chibi style.
I'm guessing that's Discord in the back and... is that... IS THAT CHRYSALIS?! The wings... that HAS to be her, right? *faints* :drunk:
No Dashie or AJ though, that's actually extremely upsetting. Maybe they'll do a series 2 if these sell well enough, and with the shipping date being at the tail end of the year, that gives me time to save up for a whole box. I think I'll like these a lot!
Hmm... they're kinda expensive, though. There's plenty of time to save up, but I'm not sure if I want to buy two boxes just to ensure that I get Chrysalis, who is honestly the one I want the most aside from :muffin: and Twilight.

Yeaaaah. I really want all of them. Mainly Ditzy Doo, Flutterbat, Chrysalis, and Discord...so basically all of them. I'll be totally in on a trading thread. Hopefully they'll also show up at Books-A-Million.

Yeah this :/ I only really want Twilight, though, so hopefully I'll be able to pick her up fairly cheaply. For $15 a go these had better have flawless quality, too.

I was so excited for these but the second they announced they were blind boxed my desire to get them plummeted to zero. The fact that they actually recommend buying two cases (at over $300) to ensure you get a full set, are they having a laugh?! They should have sold them like Nendoroids! >_<
I'm hoping by the time their December release date rolls around they'll have back-peddled and done away with the blind boxed idea, especially considering the fiasco with their first vinyl figure (having to purchase items to a certain value to be allowed to purchase it, then a few months later you could get it for $20 with no hoop jumping), there's already collector backlash on other sites where the news was announced lol.
In fact, their designs are a bit awkward if you ask me, not as cute as I'd hoped. I only really want :muffin:, if I could buy them individually from WLF I might have bought a couple more characters, but since I'll probably have to shell out on eBay I'll only be buying her if any. :P
But that's just my opinion. ^.^

Hmm wow, I saw the teasers a couple of days ago. Most of them looked cute from the back, but I am not really liking the faces on most of them from the front. Twilight's eyes in particular look really... off xD
Muffin pony and Pinkie Pie both look adorable though. But not for that price...

Making an unpopular decision like blindboxing also seems a really bad idea to announce right after their disaster with every one of their last line of figures breaking in transit.

I really, REALLY want :muffin: but why blind box? I'm less likely to get any now and i can promise you, if they'd been seperate i'd have bought two of her. Plus, after reading the description is there another pony not featured? They mention all the ones we can see, plus the two villains if not by name, but next to :muffin:'s name they've put 'Best Pony or :muffin:'
And yeah, telling people to buy two crates is insane and totally greedy :P
[ETA] At over $300 to guarantee you get the eight figures that's effectively $40 per figure. Especially as at this point we don't know what the resell value will be on them so can't say what you'll be able to sell the duplicates for.

Very disappointed in their decision for blind boxes...tired of companies doing this. How hard is it to really sell them individual. They want $300 for a complete collection, yeah....no. I'll be sure to let them know of my disgust when they announce it on Facebook.
I don't see much of a trade either other than having to do it online. All the MLP fans I come across (the average MLP fan, not hardcore bronies that are often online) aren't even familiar with WeLoveFine.

It is a shame that they're doing this blind-box thing, but I don't think it will cut into interest enough for them to reconsider. For one, the gears are already turning. For another, they're more likely to sell out of their stock of all the ponies if they are distributed at random, without having the ones that prove unpopular linger around forever.
I guess I'm kind of lucky that I only want :muffin:...? It'll still be difficult to get, but I think a trading thread here on the Arena might help everybody get the pony they want without shelling out eBay bucks for them. The eBay market on even readily available non-blind-packaged WLF vinyls is crazy; I'd hate for folks to have to resort to that!

I was seriously considering buying two boxes, because I really really want Chrysalis and don't think I'll be lucky enough to get her with just one box. Then I realized that you get two of most of the characters with just ONE box, so that's four Twilight, Pinkie, Flutterbat, Rarity, Vinyl Scratch, two :muffin: ponies and then one of Chrysalis and Discord. I'll still do this but ONLY if I know that I can sell all of the extras, including the extra :muffin: and possibly Discord. Or I can get one box and if I get Discord, hopefully someone would trade with me. The only figure I know I could resell is the extra Rarity, since that's my best friend's favorite pony and I doubt she'll be buying a box (because she clearly isn't as crazy as I am). :lol:
In saying all of this, would anyone be interested in going in on this with me? I don't want to spend the money and then have it go to waste, or have any trouble finding people to buy the extras from me. I'd obviously sell them at $15 each, no crazy eBay prices.
So yes, this is me announcing that I'm willing to buy TWO BOXES OF THESE if there's enough interest from you lovely Arena members to buy the extras from me AT ORIGINAL COST!
Like I said, I'm just considering it. That's a whole lotta money to spend, but I really would like a set of these figures.
It'd honestly be so much better if they didn't do this blind box mess, though. I'll give Funko credit for at least making theirs cheaper. Totally going to have to add on to the previous post and say that I also thought that blind boxes were meant to be cheap since it's a gamble. WLF is being greedy no matter how you look at it. These figures better have immaculate, beautiful paint jobs.

I'm hoping they might run a discount of some sort on box pre-orders, like Toywiz did with the series 3 trading card boxes. I had pre-ordered a box waaayyyy back in September of last year because it was nearly $20 off and the boxes didn't come in until April, I think? Totally worth it, though.

Really wish they weren't blind.. especially at $15 a pop. Maybe I'm cheap, but if I spend that much on something, I really need to know what it is.. Rarity is so adorable !! And I collect Discord stuff. Maybe the resell value (or whatever) won't be too inflated. (yeah right..)

Yikes, they're expensive. At $15 each I wouldn't buy them knowing who they were, much less blind. They're much cuter than I expected, but if you want cute chibi pony figures, there's Funko pop - bigger, cheaper and visible in the packaging.

as this i catered to bronies (whom I have nothing against and will always consider myself one) AJ is the least liked pony of the main six pinkie is still popular to bronies although the lack of rainbow dash is weird for a line such a this

Agreed, so I imagine this means perhaps a wave #2 is coming? with AJ, Rainbow Dash, sweet lil Fluttershy, some princesses, Daring Do, etc. ...and agreed! I'm not a big fan of :muffin: Pony in general, but this particular figure with her little heart envelope is just adorable! She's the one I want <3

I'm not a fan of WLF's vinyl figures in general (too stylized for my liking, plus their business practices are a bit.. questionable at times) but Ditzy is pretty cute, and I'm interested in seeing Chrysalis. I can't believe they're blind-boxing them, though >__< Considering these are all unique figures, that just seems silly, not to mention very greedy.

I imagine they meant that as "Best Pony, also called :muffin:", I've seen Ditzy be called simply "Best Pony" before. If that makes sense.

I think I might be crazy enough to buy two cases for muffin and chrysalis. *shrug* I don't think the prices are completely outlandish for "vinyl toys"... However, I think the common 2/12 per box stings just a little... In reality its 4/24.
Sigh, I don't mind unloading my unwanted for $8-10 each, I just am not sure I have the spare time to dedicate to selling ... Plus quite honestly, I don't think many people in this community like these types of things .. So it's be hard to sell here, and *sigh* I'm not sure I want to do eBay.

Not my style, cool that they have their own poses but just not for me same with the Funko POP figures just don't appeal to me, and not the biggest fan of WLF besides for clothes. Although dumb that WLF gets to make Chrysalis before Funko.... I'll just wait for the Funko vinyl version she will be so much better.
PS. I find it interesting people complain there is no AJ, Dash, or Fluttershy. But then complain all we get is mane 6, if those three were in here it would basically only be mane 6.

I hope people refuse to pay those prices, their greed is as blatant as their lack of integrity !
I have not buy from them since their messy re releases on the first 2 figures .
I would not be surprised if later they change the blind boxes into a display box in order to get rid of them and cheaper just to unload them.
Blind boxes are so lame, I think Funko is learning that :) There are tons of them at HT and TRU from the second wave :).

See, the thing with Funko blind boxes is that they usually sell well. If you look at the blind boxes for other shows and stuff, the mystery minis look soooo different from the Pop counterparts! For some dumb reason, they made the pony mystery minis look exactly like the vinyls, just smaller and black... so it's no wonder that the pony ones aren't doing well in comparison to others (based on the Funko forums I know that other series are popular).
What I like about the WLF blind box figures is that they're posed differently and have a chibi look to them, making them different than other MLP figures. What I don't like is pretty much everything else about this whole ordeal. These should NOT be blind boxes, there's no reason to sell them like that other than for more $$$.
I'm actually upset that I like these, because aside from the Future Twilight Sparkle figure and the Nightmare Moon one, I've been able to avoid WLF's products lately. The fact that they're including a Chrysalis figure in this set is mainly what intrigues me, but I do find all of them cute so far. I won't be disappointed if my group order idea doesn't work out though, since I refuse to buy two entire boxes for myself. I can easily skip these figures, but I'd personally still like to have them somehow. If WLF changes these to non-blind boxes, that would be even better.

Since I'm one of the ones who complained about a lack of AJ, Dashie and Fluttershy, I'll explain why: These are unique figures that don't look like anything else we've gotten plus they aren't all in the same pose. I welcome unique molds of the mane 6 as opposed to the same cut-and-paste toys we get of them from Hasbro.

I like these but $15 each is too pricey. I imagine they will be around Nendoroid size so maybe there will be even tinier mini versions someday.

Its looking like a wide majority of fans is hating WeLoveFine for the idea of Blind Boxes and having to buy two cases for a full set. Hopefully with continued bashing of WLF's stupid idea, maybe they'll reconsider and plan this better. So far I'm seeing a ton of negative comments via Facebook and Equestria Daily.

Most likely a wave 2 would be moreso "fan favorite", but for now I'm hoping to get chibi Muffins :3 I mostly collect figures/plush of her selectively.

I'm assuming they'll know which boxes they're giving you if you happen to order two: one containing Discord and the other with Chrysalis. Therefore giving you the full set (and then some).

I'm grateful that I'm sorta 'done' with the whole Funko/WLF blind box thing; I'd rather focus my collecting energies on the legitimate Hasbro ponies, even if they are all in the same pose. :P
If I happened to find one in a store, or someone was selling their extras for cheap, I'd probably pick one up; but I dunno that I "care" enough to go after them, even though Rarity is my favorite.
Does anyone else think the eye/symbol paint looks photoshopped on in these pics? I have a bad feeling that the promo photos will look much nicer/less smudgy than the in-person release pics... :/

I do t think these images are photoshopped that much. They're color balanced and cut out, but I don't think the product has been touched up! Twilight's hair looks a little rough paint-wise.
I think the eyes just look funny because they're outlined in grey. They will probably be screened on like what we see with Hasbro's ponies.
EDIT: Finally got to look at these on my computer. I believe you are right; the eyes really do look 'shopped! Perhaps it's because they're still in the prototype phase.

I have a thread set up on the For Sale board, looking for interest. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if not too many people take this opportunity, but it's worth a shot!
Also just voiced my frustration at WLF via their Facebook post announcing these. Looks like I'm not the only one, either! :lol:

They're sort of cute there's enough nitpicky details I don't like (plus the uneven odds and price) that I have no interest in them at all. It's a bit of a shame since they looked cute from the back.
NMM is the only figure I liked enough to buy from them, I guess I just don't like their preferred style.

edit: I left a comment saying " If you're considering making this a pick and choose deal instead of a blind box deal, you'll definitely have some very happy customers!" and the We Love Fine page liked the comment. Maybe I'm reading into this too much, but maybe it's a sign?! :lookround:

They're cute I guess. But really? Flutterbat instead of regular Fluttershy? And no AJ? Instead we get the two most over-used "fan favorites". And a couple "meh" villains that I couldn't care less about. Pass. Well...except for maybe Pinkie. I may very well need her. I have a special place in my heart for the Pink Menace.

I ordered a full set because I think Discord looks insanely cute, even if he isn't one of my favorites. I was going to order just Chrysalis and :muffin: at first, but... I think this set has grown on me. I'm actually just really happy that WLF listened to us. I know we've been giving them flack (and rightfully so) for the other things they've done, but for them to completely change how they were selling items due to the massive amount of backlash is pretty great. Good for them!

Not having to pay until it ships is what sealed the deal for me. I hate paying for pre-orders up front (except when it comes to Disney LE doll and DVD/BR releases) so I avoid places that do that.

I find it kinda handy, depending on what it is. The one site I would usually preorder anime figures from require you to pay upfront, but at least by the time the figure releases, I don't have to worry about having the money in my account or not since i had paid earlier. (Plus keeps me from preordering a bunch of things and forget that I have to pay for it all later xD).
If anything, I wish sites give you the option of either paying upfront or paying later (even if for the latter, you get punished/banned/strike-held-against-you if you don't pay within a certain time [such as a week] the item comes in stock).

Im sad they changed how many is in the complete case, sure normally one would not need a double set, but i was gonna ask a friend of mine if she wanted to split a case and make it cheaper for both of us...even with the pricecut, it still don't bring down the amount of mony me and my friend would have saved on buying together. I really don't wanna sound cheap or greedy but neither of us have much money.

That was honestly such a shock to see my name and the others. It seems like such a little thing, but taking the time to thank us like that and to go through and change how they planned on selling these figures shows that WLF is at least trying to be a better company. I wonder if they've seen complaints about how they dealt with the very first two pony figures they did? I honestly stopped supporting them other than the Twilight and Nightmare Moon figures I got, and I figured I'd be done with them. This is most definitely a step in the right direction for them!
Maybe they ought to consult us fans first before they sell products. We have good ideas! :lol:

That was why I went ahead an preordered Chrysalis - I didnt want to risk waiting out on her and she sells out beforehand (since she was originally a case-exclusive character, right?)
I have waited nearly six months for a preordered figure to get released before (*looks at Disney Elsa nendoroid*). So I think I can do it one more time, in a situation like this. xD
...I just hope they don't suffer the same fate that their Fluttery/Discord figures did, granted that figure was made of resin.

Chrysalis is super cute- the only other one I really like is Discord though, so it is not really worth it to get the set I think. They are cute but I really don't like the ones that are standing up (looking at you Pinkie and DJ)- not a big fan of the Twilight sculpt either. Or the "best pony".
Fat Rarity is kinda cute, but $15 cute? Hmmm. Flutterbat is kinda cute too-
Glad they are offering them separate! DEFINITELY getting Chrysalis just have to decide if I need any more than that :D

they are super overpriced , for 15 they should be giving the customers a big figure like the Funko vinyls size
so won't be surprised if the go down to half price or even less around next year :)

Hmm, I'd never order them from Hot Topic- but they are usually $8.59 there (full price) and almost always either 30% off or buy one get one half off or something. They always got some kind of promotion...
$15 is pretty expensive for a 2" figure. But I really like the Chrysalis :D

nah I dont think you are remembering wrong. I think they normally retail for a bit less than $10 (I wana say Walmart or Target sells them for around $8?) , but HT charges a few bucks more?
Plus HT does often have that BOGO 50% sale, so that does help with impulse buying. xD

Yeah, they're usually around $8 each for the Funko blind boxes. My only issue with those is that... well, they don't look all that great. I always thought the box designs were cool for the vinyls, with the pony outlined in their color and then colored in black, but the mystery minis just don't do much for me. And collecting the "show accurate" colored ones is pointless (to me) because they're just small versions of the regular vinyls. As much as I love the Funko figures, they kind of suffer from the same thing that Hasbro has been doing with the toys for G4: same poses, nothing too special, just a minor change here and there. I know I keep saying this, but look at the mystery minis for other series... they look great! The pony ones are so boring in comparison.
The WLF figures are at least unique from one another, though I have to agree about the standing ones (Pinkie and DJ), they aren't too eye-catching and don't look as cute as the others.
These figures make me think more of Nendoroids, extremely tiny and extremely expensive. But at least with Nendoroids you get accessories and such. Honestly though, I don't see WLF making these cheaper. The fact that they took away the blind box aspect was big enough of them to do, I'm not going to expect them to lower the price considering the positive feedback they're getting already for just changing how to obtain each figure.
I'm pretty sure that even if these were cheaper, someone would find something negative to say about it all. They can't please everyone, but hey... they at least tried!
They also said that if these sell well, then AJ and RD will be on the way along with a normal Fluttershy. I personally hope they do Tirek and King Sombra since those two will probably never get any love from Hasbro.
But yeah, I wish these were cheaper. Even $10 would've been nice, or a discount for buying the whole set.

Eh. I've paid $15 a box for a "designer vinyl" blind box. (By that i mean not cheap-o funko brand). However, that is on the high end. I'd say a lot are closer to $13.

It sure beats the crazy time rarity of 1/96 or whatever for some of the vinyl blind boxes... However, I DID think that 16 duplicates (5 characters being 4/24 rarity) was stupid. insanely stupid.

I was thinking at first $15 wasn't too bad, because the Funko blind boxes are $12 off the shelf here in Australia. However, I forgot that was $15 USD - these would be $19 AUD before shipping! Ick!
They're kinda cute, but I probably won't get any. Which is fine by me, I don't really like We Love Fine much anyway.

I completely agree, and that's what a lot of us wanted them to realize. It's fine to have limited figures, but don't put people in a position where they'd have all of these extras just to guarantee them one or two characters that they want. That's why I went ahead and set up a group order thread for these on here (up until WLF made that change). The original 1/24 chance of getting Chrysalis or Discord is nothing compared to other ratios I've seen for figures, including Funko, but the price of these is so much on the upper end that it was ridiculous.

Provided the quality is good, I wouldn't mind shelling out that much for something that was 3-inches tall (of course I would be a hypocrit if I said otherwise, consdering I often shell out that much or more on anime/pokemon figures that are about the same size)

I was thinking the same thing, that I'd be a total hypocrite if I complained too much about the price for these considering I've paid that (and then some) for anime and Pokemon figures that are the same size. It's all about the quality for me, and I'm willing to take a gamble that these will be good. I've been very happy with my Twilight Sparkle and Nightmare Moon figures from them.
I can see where people are coming from though, about the price. Just personally I can't say these are expensive and then turn around and spend the same price on a Sailor Moon figure that's the same height and act like that's different. :lol:

Yeah that's who I ordered too. I think they are much cuter than the others (my own personal opinion I know everyone has favorites)
Looks like RD and Octavia may be on the way as well. I love Octavia as a character- but it looks like she will be in a pose I am not a fan of. RD looks cute!

Honestly it kills me just a little bit not to order the entire set (I tend to be a completionist if I'm not careful) but I really have to remind myself that I don't need them allll- I can just get the ones I actually like! I had to cancel my order of the entire set and then order again because WLF has the most ridiculous security measures and they couldn't change the delivery address for me since I moved. :pout: I still think these figures are adorable and, although they're pretty expensive, I'll take these dynamic poses over Funko's smaller-versions-of-the-vinyls-but-black mystery minis.

I was thinking that, especially based on the picture I saw of the prototypes on Instagram and other pictures by the person who posted it. It looks like the company that's making these (BigShot Toyworks) is a small company and hand makes ALL of their stuff, which to me is very exciting (and makes the price tag a lot more understandable). If I'm correct, this is the same group that made the 4 Horsies of the 'Pocolypse ponies, and those look great.

I only pre-ordered :muffin: but seeing the prototype Pinkie almost makes me wish I'd got her too. Without her mouth decal and the more scrunched eye design she looks a lot cuter than the pics on the website. I'll reserve full judgement 'til they're actually released, then I might get more :P

Chrysalis came in today and she looks cute in person! I'll try to post a pic of her in a sec (currently on my phone).
Although I am bummed out that her horn was bent inside the box. That is the only downside of getting her so far.

My package scans haven't had an update in 3 days. I'm only slightly annoyed, since the expected delivery date keeps changing. There was an arrival scan at some place in CA and...that's it. Not only that, but I was charged another $130+ for an order for the set that I canceled several months ago, since I was moving and that was the only way to do the address change. It even says canceled on the site, in favor of the new order...yet I was fully charged twice. So I guess I gotta call them today.

I have seen only one picture so far from a collector and I must say I'm actually pretty pleased with how they look! :heart: After they are done with preorder and re-release the full set I am thinking about buying all of them! I can't wait to see everyone's pictures! It looks like they are back up online for sale, hey didn't they have an Applejack with a tiny Apple?

Applejack will arrive this February. I'm kinda bummed since its incredile expensive to ship these to NL. Why does the US always gets these awesome figures. The Hikari as well. ;_;

I'll be ordering 2 Applejack's after I get my figures. I want to make sure these are worth $15 first, so I gotta see them in person- no matter how cute they look in pictures! :lol: But yeah, gonna get a second AJ for my husband to sit on his desk at work. ^.^
Looks like I don't have to wait for my lunch break to call WLF and ask about that other charge. My job is so deeeeeeaaad today and I have nothing else to do.

GRRRR I might not get mine. Just now got a message from them today saying my debit card was declined (I thought I had enough in there). I won't be able to do anything until I get paid tomorrow. By then they might cancel my order and Muffin might be sold out. >_<

I'm debating getting Chrysalis and Flutterbat, and hunting down Discord on eBay - I might start a chibi villains collection, if they make more. They're just so cute!

You should do it! I am not normally a huge fan of WeLoveFine, but I have to admit these figures are amazingly cute, detailed and not an flaw on them. PLUS the adorable little box they come with!
Chrysalis also comes with a teeny tiny little stand to help stabilize her- (I wonder now if Flutterbat should have had one- does anyone know?)
I wish I'd ordered the entire set now...

Still no update on my set. It's been 6 days now (shipped on Saturday)...
I've never had this problem before with UPS. I would assume it's due to the holidays, and people are sending a crap ton of things all around the country, but the last update I got was an arrival scan in CA on Monday morning. Not even a departure scan. :(
I wouldn't be so bothered by it, except it seems like everyone else has gotten their orders already.
edit: It still has 2 business days left for the estimated delivery. I guess I'll wait to get super worried next week if I don't get anything.

Yeah- I realized that i was missing one and contacted WeLoveFine- surprisingly, they got back to me right away and they are sending one in the mail! Such a relief!

I got my figures today, and I'm happy with them overall. I think Rarity is the only one I don't like much...not sure why. I think it's the eyes. :huh:

If muffin stays in stock, I'll get them both together. I hope they think about doing the ponies in different poses- I love Twilight but don't love the standing up pose
