Found this in a local pony group! Not sure where they found them, but here's pictures of 4/6 of the new vinyls, with the prototype image for comparison.
Personally... I hate to say it, but I'm a little disappointed. I was super excited for these! But.. they really don't look as cute as they did in the catalogue. I might have to see these in person before I decide whether or not to buy them.

I don't really like these at all even though I'm a big fan of Pinkie Pie her picture looks much cuter than her. The face of Pinkie Pie looks a little more rounder in the picture then it does with the figure. I hope these are just the prototype's.

I think they would have been cuter with flat faces. The way they did the snouts makes them look like piggies. :P
But they're cute enough. Will definitely get Rarity and AJ if they make them, and I will probably pick up a Fluttershy from this set.

I think they're cute. The only other Pop! figure I have at this time is Marcelline from Adventure Time, and I don't know if I'll get all the ponies... probably at least Fluttershy, but I have my eyes on Bubbles and Twilight too.

Poor applejack left out again :( I think they are cute in a weird way I don't like the eyes though.

I think that the raised faces make them look like that they are unsure or frowning, and that's why they don't look so cute.
I might pick up a few of these. I really kind of like how cute Twilight looks with her back hair flipped up like that, and since I love Drama Pony I'll probably pick her up as well, and maybe Rarity. My collection is growing so big, I can't get every single pony anymore! :yikes:

I love the catalogue pictures! I feel they didn't translate so well to the sculpted figurines, though... the mouths and cheeks/faceshapes look quite different :( Poor AJ and Rarity! Bwah!! :(

Kind of terrifying. These are the sorts of toys you rotate to face the wall at night, so that they can't watch you while you sleep.

The POP! style definitely takes some getting used to... Though the human characters I see in stores kinda looked better with no nose/mouths, since it's so stylized. Maybe they should have done that for the ponies.

I think they need a bit more of a happy smile. What they are now is a 'I will eat your soul' kinda smile.

I don't think they are ugly- but they aren't as cute as expected at all. I am actually glad now that it took so long for pictures to surface, I was able to cancel my pre-order with Toywiz.
I am grateful as I didn't have the space for them anyway- and now I don't have to worry about it!

I think the other two will be in the next wave so it doesn't bother me that not all 6 are here. Rarity and Applejack are still popular with fans even if they are not as popular as Bubble Butt. Hasbro splits up the Mane 6 all the time so hopefully Funko is doing the same thing and that is why they are not all here yet.

an Applejack one would of been awesome. With the beady eyes she would look just like Babyjack from Apple Family Reunion.
Kinda creepy, but I like them. Might take a bit to get used to the chubby faces. They're a lot different from other figures I have.
Still pretty cool, though. Can't wait for the Vinyl and Bubblebutt ones

Much as I don't like the mane six being repeated in Hasbro's brushy toyline, I don't like that two got kicked out in favour of background ponies in this.
At least get some new background ponies.

I wanted to like them... I adore my funko rudolph a lot...
but something just isn't working for me... I think it's the bottom of the face... I wish it was more round like the illustration. But maybe I'll change my mind if I see them in person...

Holy cow, Dr. Whooves actually is holding a sonic screwdriver in his mouth. o.0 A parody name is one thing, but actually copying a prop from the show? I suppose Funko got permission.
Edit: Oh, actually EqD says that photo was not a prototype pic, just a photoshopped mockup. XD; Well that's what we get for trusting the internet lol.

Yeah, I totally agree. I wanted her based on the promo pic, but now that I've seen how they're doing her eyes, I don't think I'll get her. I do want Fluttershy, though. Since she's my favorite of the main six, I usually get anything I can with her on it.

Actually Pon-3 is the cutest of the bunch, the only one that worked well, maybe the big glasses make the head look cuter to me.

Not just you thinking/seeing that. She and Rarity get much less merchandise compared to the other 4 mane ponies, and AJ certainly gets the least amount. ;_;

This. I'm sure they're just splitting up the mane 6 and the rest will be in the next wave. I don't think they're being left out or forgotten, you just gotta be more patient (as annoying as that can be).
I agree the catalogue pictures looked cuter. The way they did the muzzles just didn't turn out right at all; poor :muffin: Pony's looks almost like a bird beak. DJ's horn looks weirdly narrow/small too, doesn't it? They might have squared the cheeks off a little bit too much as well, rather than having the bottoms of their faces slightly rounded like in the pictures. They're not horrifyingly hideous, but I won't be getting any and I was really hoping to like these. I don't think their bodies turned out bad, but I'm not a fan of how obvious the logo is on their foot. I would've rather they stuck that on the bottom where you can't see it.
I really like how well the style goes with the baby pony style of the show, but I have to say these turned out looking more like cheap bobble-heads than what I was expecting. I think Twilight and Rainbow probably turned out the best in this batch. I was expecting to like DJ the best, but they really did something different with her... it looks like she's got a sock puppet mouth. And I think I was expecting her glasses to have a gradient.

No doubt they will get a release eventually, but they could certainly make a wave out of other significant characters (the princesses, villains, CMC, Shining Armor, Apple Family, the Cakes... these characters transcend background pony status) so I don't think that's the issue. They're starting off with six, not staggering the releases like Funrise, and even Funrise waited until all the mane six were released before adding background ponies. It's a sales thing though, this will get them more money because unfortunately Rarity and AJ are the least popular of the mane six ponies with the crowd they're targeting (from what I've been told??) so they're more likely to snap up fan favourites, but it's still sad to see two of the show's heroines get shoved aside because some background characters with hardly any screentime between them are more popular. I think that's why people are complaining.

I said I would try and reserve judgement until I saw them and just no for me...just NO!
Every time I see something new for G4, I feel that they look less and less like ponies...

Because according to their ~*research*~ adult collectors a.k.a. "bronies" as we're all called nowadays hate the "girly one" and the "boring one" ;)
I have seen that most people think AJ is "boring" because she doesn't have weird quirks like the others, but Rarity? Last time I checked her fanbase was bigger than Fluttershy's.
Maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part because Rarity is my #1 out of the main six g4 ponies.

I don't think Rarity and AJ get any 'hate' at all, not much more than usual, anyway, I think Funko just knows that using popular BG ponies makes them wanna throw their money a bit more, so they run with it. Honestly don't like Fluttershy at ALL, but it doesn't matter to me as I'll only buy these if I see them in stores.

I agree Zapper, I think it's strange that Rarity doesn't get much merchandise because she does seem to be one of the more popular characters in the brony fandom.

I think you see some ponies represented differently as popular depending on where you're looking, and I feel that Funko is probably looking exclusively at the most popular forums and sites for Brony culture. In which case, you would probably see the most discussion revolving around Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Twilight, because of her recent transformation and because she is the 'main' character. Pinkie Pie, because she is represented a lot in other merch as it were, and Drama Pony and DJ because they fit the bill for the young adult into EDM and memes, and who is justifying their taste in TV shows. BTW I don't mean that in any derogatory way, I'm just stating it the way that Funko probably sees it and thus why they choose the characters they choose. I could be wrong, but it's just a thought.
Unfortunately, Rarity and Applejack are my favorites and lie on the extremes of the character spectrum, from girly to down to earth. The other ponies are more in between, and I think that may contribute to why the representation is the way that it is :(

They are not a HT exclusive - neither are the other Funkos. Its just that HT get 6 months exclusivity before other retailers can carry them. With the POP! there is not even the 6 month period.

I didn't know people saw AJ as the boring one, but now that you mention it, she is a bit "normal" compared to the other 5 ponies. xD I had thought the character popularity was something like (at least for bronies) :
Rainbow Dash > Pinkie Pie > Fluttershy >= Twilight Sparkle > Rarity > Applejack
I know for a time (like maybe around when season one was airing/ending), Rarity was the least popular out of the mane ponies and AJ was about as popular or more-so than TS. Then I think "Tara Strong" happened, and TS increased with popularity. xD

I think it's because she has that "innocently cute / adorable / "kawaii"/ "moe" personality thing that a lot of [online, at least] people (particularly anime fans and guys) like. Pretty much she's "The Cute Adorable" one.
I do feel that is the reason why Fluttershy appears on more merchandise (or at least gets more "priority") than Rarity and AJ. Twilight Sparkle is the main character (so that's given, especially with this Pop! line), Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie are fan favorites, and Fluttershy is the cute/sweet one that fans like (and more popular than AppleJack and Rarity).

It is, definitely. I have Daryl from Walking Dead and hubby has a couple of Game of Thrones figures and we both think they're awesome. I loved the first release of Funko figures but I always wondered why they made them so pony when their line has it's own unique look. Don't get me wrong, I adore the first Funko ponies (plus they're heavy enough to bludgeon someone with) but I did wonder why they were made in that style and not in their usual style. Now I have the best of both worlds - BONUS!

Rumor has it that Dr Whooves is also going to be released in addition to the six figures we already know about. DJ Pon-3 and :muffin: Pony are also (timed?) Hot Topic exclusives.

I dont think I would be even remotely surprised by Dr Whooves being added to the mix...it seems standard practice that anything classed as "brony" merch is guaranteed to have these three background characters feature. Will be interesting to see what he looks like!

They'll probably add AJ & Rarity eventually depending on how popular sales are.
I will admit that these initially repelled me but they have been growing on me- and I'll probably get one or two... hopefully they will go on sale somewhere though.

They are not out yet- originally Pinkie and Lyra were anticipated to arrive by July/August- and then the next set at an undisclosed time. I know their production was delayed somewhat though, so who knows?
