Title: Regarding Accusations About My Saran Hair
Post by: enchantress41580 on September 10, 2012, 02:40:46 PM
It saddens me to have to make a post such as this, but it appears that there are some concerns raised as to the quality of my hair. I have asked a mod if I can address this situation. Awhile ago there was a post made about my nylon hair not being nylon but in fact polypropylene. After a few tests, a few came back as polypropylene and thus were changed to the correct label. I am still conducting my own tests through trusted members in the community. It was brought up that it should be tested in a lab, which, I have contacted a professional lab that tests all types of synthetics. It costs $150.00 per color to test, I will gladly send them all in, if the person accusing would like to pay for it. Now, the issue at hand is now my saran thermal hair. While it is true that we DO carry polypropylene thermal (just got in this week- 9 new colors), we also have saran thermal. I have done a burn test myself and it melted, the exact same way as blizzard from another competitor did, only it pulled up and away from the flame using a bic lighter. As saran will do. If you would like to look at this chart from a credited university on the burning properties of different types of plastics/nylon/synthetics/etc, this will show you how they should burn and what the results will be. Ironically, if you notice on the very bottom of the chart it says that the ONLY hair that will char/turn to ash is aramid, novoloid, and vinyon. True nylon will not char and turn to ash. True saran will not either. Both will melt.

http://missourifamilies.org/features/materialarticles/feature7.htm

According to this chart, saran should melt, which mine does. There are several types of nylon fibres
Nylon 6 is trademarked by Perlon and to get around it other companies created nylon 6,6 and nylon 6,10 - all with slightly different characteristics - traditional nylon 6 does take dye and also fades easily - leads me to believe that this is traditional pony hair
Nylon 6,6 - does take dye but not as well as nylon 6 and has more of a crystalline structure - more prone to breakage.

Also, you will get different effects depending on what you are burning the hair with, for example a candle flame is typically 2,600 farenheit whereas a lighter (bic) flame is 1400 farenheit (that is on the orange part of the flame.) Nylon typically melts at around 500 degrees farenheit - 492.8 to be exact. saran melts at 320 degrees farenheit. I believe polypropylene is around 350 farenheit

A good test would actually be to bake it in the oven. (For your safety I would NOT recommend this in a home oven)

I will gladly send samples of my hair for people to try, my first and top priority is my customers and will always be my customers. I am truly saddened to even have to address these claims but I assure everyone that I am looking into all of this to get it sorted and labeled correctly. I have no interest in public fighting matches, if anyone has any troubles with my products, please contact me and I will respond to you quickly to make sure your needs are met and that you are happy. Thank-you for the wonderful support that has been given me thus far, I'm really enjoying meeting everyone and seeing the wonderful creations you come up with.
Thank-you
Sincerely,

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly are the accusations?  That it doesn't behave the way it's supposed to?

The accusations were made in two different threads- the first was that my nylon was not nylon but in fact polypropylene and that I was lying to everyone, the second was that now my saran thermal is not saran but also polypropylene and that again I'm lying to everyone.

Thank you for sending me the samples of hair Enchantress! The colors are stunning, and I rooted the few plug samples in a fakie and plan on trying to curl it as soon as I have the time to do so.

I still don't know much about saran hair, I've never seen any of it or used it myself, curious about it though. I can't remember which hair curls and which doesn't and what ones need different treatment... does saran curl well? does it need the same or different method from nylon if it does curl? and what does saran feel like compared to nylon?

so many questions @_@

super curious about the thermal hair too, I might have to get some for the sea pony I'm going to customize as soon as I can decide on a design

And iz gorgeousness!!

I'm glad you like your samples!! I can send you some of saran and kanekalon as well as some thermal to try too if you want. Saran will curl in a boil perm- however it doesn't curl as easily as nylon. Saran is what is used in barbies, it's very silky/waxy and heavier than nylon.

I love my thermal tinsel hair.  LOVE IT.  Working on a project and will share later.
oooh I can't wait to see! I LOVE tinsel and thermal, it's so much fun to play with!! Feel free to let me know when you are done- we have a customer showcase on facebook and our website that I'd be happy to show off your work (and I can include any website/DA site you have for people to go see more of your work).

Hey hun, Melanie sent the pre-orders out this past week so I'm hoping they should arrive sometime this week or early next and then I will be shipping directly to you, I will let you know when it comes in :)

Thank-you JPP!! I am trying my best to get a diverse selection of hair types and colors for everyone!

I also wanted to let everyone know that there has been some glitches with my website, but I am working on building a new one from scratch that is easier to navigate and works much better. I hope to have it done by the end of the week and then will have the url redirected there.

That would be awesome! I would totally love to try it out and compare them! if you don't mind sending the samples could you label them with what kind of hair they are? The last samples I got were a little confusing I couldn't find a couple of the colors on your site either, I think it was Iris and one other one, but I'm thinking you sent me all synthetic and a couple polypropelene hairs, and me of course being silly I went and threw out the little name card things, but I know I loved that screaming red and blue, rebel and delta :3

kept meaning to pm you and ask you but then every time I went to sit down and do that I got busy >_< *headdesks*

if someone had a problem they should have come to you in confidence so you could at least have been given a chance to fix it, it could have just been a mix up of signs on your bags!

i know some ppl have allergies to certain plastics, so i know it's important to know the difference for selling. personally tho i have used the saran, the poly, the synthetic, and the saran thermal and they're all wonderful. I've used saran for many years as restoredoll was the only place i went to for hair til 2008. i've had their saran thermal just as long and your thermal doesn't taste any different...

er...

KALA! how dare you put that thought in my head?!

anyway since i'm not allergic to plastics i don't care if you label your hair as left over spaghetti, i'm still going to buy it. not to mention the wonderful kanekalons you have. i really do adore it's versatility and styleability

It sounds to me like if there was some kind of labeling problem it has been fully resolved now and was an honest mistake.  I haven't ordered your hair yet (I am really excited about the GID I preordered though).  I've worked with you in swaps, in general, and in the contest you are running and I know you to be an honest person.  I do not believe that you would ever intentionally misrepresent goods.  I know sometimes dissatisfied customers can feel slighted but I hope that those involved realize that any mislabel/miscommunication was accidental.  I don't know what your return policies are but if they were that unsatisfied I do think it would have been better to address it privately if at all possible.  Hang in there.  Starting a new business is hard.  You trust your supplier.

Thank you so much for trying to get everything sorted out! I appreciate it, because I am one of few people who really dislike using saran. I prefer to buy Nylon instead. Saran is fine for a long straight hairstyle, but if I need to do bangs or curls, then I want Nylon, so it's easier for me to only stock Nylon.

I really look forward to more things getting listed as nylon, or to more nylon products showing up ;)

True nylon will not char and turn to ash as the person making the claim says it will and that their hair does.

I am so tired of being misquoted, so let me AGAIN state what I said before: REAL SARAN burns and turns to black charcoaly, crumbly ash. But NYLON does NOT char and turn to ash. Ever. Nylon melts like plastic.

Post Merge: September 10, 2012, 04:21:39 PM

It costs $150.00 per color to test, I will gladly send them all in, if the person accusing would like to pay for it.

The burden of proof is not on me.

awesome :3 good to know! So *should* all of that synthetic whether it is poly or nylon curl with a boil perm or would it react differently? curling is really the biggest worry I have.

and OMG everyone else XDDD I am so glad I waited until I got home to read the last bits XDDDD we need to start a society called "PHLA" Pony Hair Lickers Anonymous!

the synthetic will curl with a boil perm, it curls quite nicely- I can post some pictures of curled hair I've done if you would like to see :)

I would like to see!

And I can see the headlines now "Large Segment of Pony Customizing Community Dies of Hair Poisoning! Scientists Baffled!"

The first time I tried Saran from a totally different company than has been mentioned here I HATED it, I thought I hated Saran, I think it was just this one blue color that sucked. I have since fallen in love with Saran for straight hair styles. I am looking forward to ordering from you, I feel like all of the hair places have something different to offer and I am looking forward to using the unique colors you offer :)

This hair-licking epidemic explains a lot about so many of you. It all makes sense now...

Dear  everyone:

I do not feel comfortable reading attacks on this website, because we are all peaceful. This is the second time that i think ????? why do that???
I am communicologist and my  area of specialization is Marketing, something that we learn, and also is very logical, is that the best representative of a company is its product and service, then the buyer decides.

I´m ok if someone tell me what are the characteristics of a particular product, however, I don´t think that many of us are interested if our hair burns and melts in a temperature. Just i want to know if i can curl it, and dye it and maybe if i can iron it or use tongs. Hey!!! i´ll not going to put it in the oven

But the fact that say "this person is lying because her hair is not like mine" is not ok to me, specially if the providers are talking , I do not want to get in trouble with someone problematic, i prefer to deal with a person easy to work, so if i have a concern i just ask without afraid

And Enchantress41580 you are doing the correct thing here, i´m sorry that you see yourself included in a talk that had nothing to do with you, you have a great product and service, and that´s the key to the success.  No matter what others say, you are supporting by your actions, so....... congrats!!!

PD.: Stop with the [ you ] thing!!!!! drives me crazy!!!!

I have to agree with ambar_jul. I honestly don't care how hair reacts to a flame/temp (unless it's for thermal for the temp part), I just care if it can be styled and curled and hold it's curl for a long time. Speaking from my customer stand point... what the accusing side is doing is just plain ridiculous to keep on with this and does not favor well in my eyes. I just makes you look bad.. at least to me. If a customer has problems or questions about a product, they'll got ask the provider about it :|

In any case, this reminds me I need to just go and finish that one custom who I've been dying to rehair with RD US hair xD

It was brought up that it should be tested in a lab, which, I have contacted a professional lab that tests all types of synthetics. It costs $150.00 per color to test, I will gladly send them all in, if the person accusing would like to pay for it.

BUT, as I said in the past, a good friend of mine owns a company that manufactures the hair swatches for L'Oreal, Clairol, etc. He taught me quite a lot about different synthetics, and he has a machine that can analyze a polymer's chemical makeup. So, my offer still stands: Shannon is welcome to send to me samples of Retrodolls' hair, and she can mark them in whatever way that she chooses so that it is absolutely impossible for me to be accused of substituting her hair with some other kind of hair. Maybe she wants to paint the ends of the swatches with a special type/color of paint, maybe she wants to put a special sticker around the swatches... whatever. In fact, I'll even allow Shannon to receive the results AND the hair swatches DIRECTLY back from my friend. That way, she'll know what he received from me. So:

1) Shannon sends me samples of all of her hair
2) I send the samples to my friend
3) He analyzes the hair and sends his reports to BOTH me and Shannon, and he also sends Shannon's original hair samples back to her.

That's my offer. If my friend's company is good enough for L'Oreal, then I think that it will be more than sufficient in this situation.

The accusations were made in two different threads- the first was that my nylon was not nylon but in fact polypropylene and that I was lying to everyone, the second was that now my saran thermal is not saran but also polypropylene and that again I'm lying to everyone.

I wish that Shannon would be truthful in this thread. I never accused her of being a liar. On the contrary, I expressed compassion toward her because I believed that she had been lied to by her supplier. Do I really need to find the thread and show it to everyone, or can we all just tell the truth?

That's bad form on their part.  They should have come to you with questions first. >:  I'm sorry that's happening to you. /hugs

Yeah, it would be bad form if it were TRUE.

is ok if Shannon do that, but she haven´t the need to prove anything
As far the hair is ok to make a pony custom and works as used to be , as a  client i haven´t problems. And  honestly  i don´t care wich LÓloreal believes

Ahaha, these things that say the name of the user creeps me out SO MUCH. I always start and go "WHY ARE YOU SAYING MY NAME!"

Though...I do lick my hair when rehairing a bit too. Only when I forgot to get a bowl of water.

You know, I understand the problem behind not being totally sure of the plastics composition of your hair when it comes to marketing, but count me in the boat of people who just care that I can do stuff with it.

I will be honest, I've considered changing over to your services, and I think the way you are handling customer service and claims is rather professional, and I think you've won a customer in me. (Well in the future, when I need more hair, for now I'll use the stuff I already have).
