Hiya Ponypeople!
August is fast approaching and that means it's time for the Virginia Pony Meet!
This year our meet will be located in Fredericksburg, Virginia on Saturday August 18th
We will be renting a place to host our meet so there should be plenty of room for those who would like to attend.
We will be adding info about games, activities, food and other meet info soon so keep an eye on the thread for updates.
If you are interested in attending this years meet please feel free to post a message on this thread or you can PM me as well.
We also have an email we use for the meet so once we get the attendee list together some information (like directions) will come by way of email. So if you are new and haven't attended in previous years please be sure to PM me your email so I can add you to the email list. Those who have already attended should already be on the email list but if you are not sure please feel free to contact me.

Virginia Meet Custom Contest
This Year's Custom contest is going to be called "All that Glitters"
We want you to make a custom that reflects a theme of jewels, gems, sparkle, bling, glitter or all of the above.
We want something pretty, beautiful or something that would make G4 Rairty squeee with delight.
Creativity is key. You can use any kind of bling you want, glitter, gems, real jewels, sculpt, etc. etc. Use your own imagination to come up with something that makes us ooooo and ahhhhh.
Any Generation pony is welcome. We love all ponies!
Rules are:
1. The pony must be design by the person entering the pony into the contest.
2. Pony must be present to enter.
We will have two winners/prizes for this event.
1. People's choice will be voted on by all attendees.
2..Staff pick will be voted on by the VA meet staff. (staff cannot enter)
Now, go forth and Bling your pony!!!
Additional Information about attending a pony meet:
If you are under the age of 18 you will need permission from your parents to attend the meet. You can contact me by PM to work out the details. If you are under the age of 16 you will need a parent or guardian to attend the meet with you. There is no exception on this rule. Everyone is welcome, but we will need to be notified if you are underage.

Myself and Princessmaker have stuff going on all the other weekends in Aug. so this was really the only date we could both manage this year.

Awesome, I should be able to go :D I missed out on the MD meet due to distance and lack of a ride, but this is actually close enough that attending is very possible!

Oh, man, this is really close to the Zelda Symphony/Otakon for me to be making two trips up north, but I'm not going to count myself out just yet!

I'm actually in MD, is it okay if I joined the Facebook page? I'm not sure how far away the area is from where I am. I'm about 30min south of Baltimore, so I'll have to check. I've never been to a pony meet though so I'd really like to go to one! I'll have to look it up.

I think Baltimore might be about 2 hours away from fredericksburg, but don't quote me on that :blush:

I have a siggy but apparently I made it to big, thats why I got a BIG SIG thingie on my signature.
We've never had adoptables but everyone is welcome to help advertise for the meet :)

I so wish I were better on tablet drawing but I am so oldschool sketching with pencil, ink, pastels...
oooh = another question - we celebrating all generations? Maybe folks can bring Fair Finds from July with them?? (hint hint! that includes boxes of the pony all the mods are sick of :-) = my kids love her)

I've always liked to describe it as a birthday party with ponies!
Pony meets are like a convention to a certain extent; attendees bring MLP stuff they want to display/sell/trade. Or bring things you've made/customized or created that is MLP related.
Some folks collect other toys as well, so while a meet is centered around MLP you can sometimes see other things for sale/trade. In fact a lot of times it's a good idea to list on the thread if you collect or like other things because sometimes you never know what others might have to sell/trade
At most pony meet there are crafty activities/games/contests.
I've already posted the custom contest. You simply customize a pony to the best of your ability, bring it to the meet and it is judged up against the other entries, etc.
For the games/contests the meet gives away prizes and all attendees will usually get gift bags once the meet is over. So usually everyone will walk away from the meet with free stuff :)
We usually have a crafty activity and other fun stuff to do, all of it usually centering around MLP.
I think if you enjoy conventions you will probably really like attending any ponymeet.
We also like all generation ponies G1-G4 - so whichever gen you prefer you will probably find something at the meet.
I hope that gives you an idea of what we do or what a usual pony meet is like. Oh yea, we also have food/etc/cake (gotta have a pony related cake at a pony meet!)
Anyway, Probably others can describe a ponymeet better but it's just a way for us to get together, meet each other and share our love of MLP and maybe sometimes find a pony we've been looking for :)

I'm told I make some tasty baked goods. So if I ever make it to a meet, I'd totally be up for contributing snacks. I even have an old G1 MLP cookie cutter that's screaming to be used for this purpose!

Ouuu, pony cookies!! Yes please! :)
A lot of times with the food we will, once we figure out how many attendees we are going to have, we'll divide up what we need and have people who can bring stuff. Last year for lunch we ordered pizza and then everyone chipped in to pay for them.
Pony cookies would be fun and a great addition if you can make it this year :)
Once we get closer to the meet we can figure out what we will need as far as food goes, etc.

Man, I wish this had happened last year! I just moved to NC from Locust Grove, VA. It's pretty much down the street from Fredericksburg! Might be a good escuse to go back for a visit. I was just there last week but I could stand to take another drive up! Don't put me down as a 100% yes, but I might be able to swing it. Was there a VA meet in the past?

Yes, there has been a VA meet since 2007 I think that's right. I was not on the staff originally, I just attended. I missed the next year 2008 because I had other plans that weekend.
I returned in 2009, I offered to do a logo for the meet.
Then in 2010 and 2011 I became a official member/organizer. The last two years the meet has been in Emporia at a local Ruritan Club because my home just isn't big enough to host a meet. So this year myself and Princessmaker wanted to try a new location so we are going to try Fredericksburg this year :)
Actually last year you would have been closer because emporia is not far from the boarder if NC/VA. Actually Princessmaker lives in NC.
We'd be glad to have you attend PB so come on back up to VA :)

Sunday August 19th
Princessmaker and I are possibly going to go to Kingsdominion on Sunday, the day after the meet. If anyone is interested in making it a group event all ponypeople are welcome to join us. If anyone is interested let us know. I was checking out the website and it looks like you can get $10 off if you buy online but I think they also offer group rates; I'm just not sure how many people you need in a group to get that cheaper rate.

Whew. Long trip.
I can't wait to show everyone at the meet the goodies I pick up at this year's fair...less than two weeks away!
I'm still trying to come up with ideas for indoor type activities in addition to our traditional wack-a-fakie (this year, there will be water hazards. No hitting the ducks!)

The Fair was so much fun and it was great to see so many pony people, now and old!
Getting excited about the meet and can't wait to see everyone again. We'll hopefully be getting our events/activities listed soon so keep an eye on the thread :)

I'll go take a look at the FB page, since I was on vacation and work is busy I am only just now getting back to posting and trying to update stuff and catchup with emails for the meet/etc.

An hour is probably a bit much, but if anyone wants to come see my pony room after the meet, you're certainly welcome! Last time everyone came my collection was sitting in boxes in my living room. :huh:

I may be attending! Does it cost anything to come?
No, we don't charge anything to attend. The only thing we will probably do closer to the meet is we will probably setup a list of foods/drinks/etc that we need and that people can volunteer to bring. So those that attend can help support the meet by bringing items on the list.
Also if attendees have ideas for games or other activities in addition to our usual activities those ideas are welcome. or if people would like to donate to the prize table - that is always an option as well. If someone would like to do a demostration or host and event you can always PM me or Princessmaker with your ideas.
Anyone interested in attending just remember you do need to PM me your email so I can add you to the mailing list. The mailing list is where the location for the meet comes from. Since we are not really setup to accept random people showing up unannounced and to be on the safe side we just prefer to keep the location between ourselves and those that really are interested in attending :) It also helps us know how much food/supplies we need :)

Less than two weeks to go!
I've finally got an idea for a custom to show off (no prizes for me ;) ) the question is whether or not I actually get it finished.
We are getting last minute items taken care of, and food, activities, and prizes have been figured out.
Now for the bad news. No Jones Sodas at the meet this year. We will award them with prizes and mail them out as we have done before, as soon as we do get them in.
Back to the good stuff. We will be having something to raffle off at the meet, so be prepared! We try to get something people are going to want and what they may not have, even if it's not the Pony Everybrony Wanted.
Also, as promised last year, the trivia game has been re-worked and will be much shorter! Less exam-y, more fun.

I'm hoping to come across some playsets this year, as I didn't find any at the MD meet...so if you're on the fence about bringing something bulky, check my need list! :-D
I'm also always on the lookout for other lines besides MLP!

Phew! The pace is getting crazy hectic around here.
Just a quick word to let everyone know:
The official RSVP cutoff is tomorrow afternoon. This means that if you are planning on seeing us on Saturday, and have not emailed us by 4pm tomorrow, AND we have not emailed you a confirmation of any sort, you will not receive a goody bag. You are still more than welcome to come and celebrate with us.
Also, we have heard from most of you who need tables and so have those reserved for you. If you have not asked us for one and think you may need one, PLEASE be aware that we may have access to more, but that may not be the case. We won't know for sure until we have access to the Elk's Lodge on Friday. Please have a back up plan.

Well, I'm going to be in town this weekend, however I won't be able to stay for the whole meet if I make it. So many of my friends made plans for me after I told them I'd be in VA that I'm on a really tight schedule now! Most likely my neice and I will be there in the morning and be able to stay for a couple hours. We'd be gone before lunch, so no worry about us using anything up! Lol! Sorry I had such a wrench thrown into my planning, I originally planned this trip BECAUSE of the meet! But with a little as I see my friends back in VA, I have to give them priority with my time. And I know my neice is dying to see her school friends too, so I'm bringing her along so she can visit before school in NC starts. I'll shoot you an email tonight for sure though!

We've got you down on our list, Elisto, and will do our best to get you a table space. The Lodge lady we are dealing with is so non specific about everything, so we could end up with only the 20 we asked for or all the tables that fit in half the space (which is a lot) and so have extra. We will know for sure Friday evening.

We do not always have the meet in the same region of Virginia. Previously we've held it in the Charlottesville area, Hampton Roads, and Emporia. Ideally we'd have it in Richmond, which is pretty much central to everyone, but so far this hasn't happened for a variety of reasons. We haven't made any decisions as to where we are having the meet next year, but there is always the chance that it could be closer to you. Unless you live waaaaaay out in the corner of the commonwealth in Bristol.

and it figures, now my kids get the "deadline" of when we are having our wonderful MEET = and want to make a custom.... today
(no really I am laughing = ah the joy of kids ages 4, 6, 8 - with no concept of how time really works when it comes to mommy's job and making customs by the weekend)

I was going to do a custom, I really was. I had a pony with a head off and hair gone, ready to go. I started on it, got a tiny bit done...but it's not gonna happen at this point. I know I can't finish it by Friday.

Actually, there are some pony people in that area and the western part of the the state. We were in contact a couple years ago, but can't remember her name, and she missed out on our meets too because of the distance. If i can think of her screen name I can pm her for you?

Even when we were having major issues, we wanted to keep the meet going for the pony collectors and fans in VA (and the Carolinas.) This would have been impossible without everyone's dedication and helping out in every way we needed.

I've got TAF Pinkie Pie, the pink TAF from Rhode Island, the black and white TAF from the German Con and more Peacock ponies than I can shake a stick at! I might have some G1 Soft Sleepy Newborns and a SDCC :muffin: Pony that I may be willing to part with for the right price. Oh! And a 25th anniversary press kit. The one that looks like a cake with Peachy and Pinkie Pie in it.

And I advertised the meet on the DC Brony Meetup group so I'm pretty sure you will at least get some interest from the new fans in the 2012 SDCC/Fair Exclusive from both collector and newbies.

But seriously, Thanks guys for coming to the meet and making it completely and totally awesome.
We had so much fun even though we had to get a bit of a late start due to some nasty evil traffic on the highway.
I really appreciate everyone that came to the meet and I hope everyone had a good time. Also I'd like to give a shout out to all the new people who attended and that supported the meet!
