Off Topic / Help identify lost 80's toy
« on: July 14, 2014, 03:04:58 PM »
Hi!

I doubt anyone will remember these, but if anyone can give me the name of these 80's toys, I would aprpeciate it very much.

They were teddybears in MLP kind of colors, and kinda the same size, made in some soft material, similar to the So-Soft ponies I guess. They had a little piece of long hair. You could push in their stomach and some kind of perfume would come out of their mouths. Their tails were plush and with a plastic brush attached at the end.

I think they were 80's toys, doubt they were earlier, and I think they must have been made by some of the larger toycompanies at the time, even if not Mattel or Hasbro.

That's a nice gift HelloGoodbye!

Myself I found a Playtime Drummer pony, I think that's what it's called, at a fleamarket the other day. Not the most common kind of pony to find in my town. :)

Thanks again hathorcat, very appreciated answer. That's more than I could expect for a G2 pony :)

Milky Way: had one just a few days, then resold it. But I get why you like it.

Nightglider: that's a real weird name and an unusual look.

Bubbles: is this one of the sitting ponies? Would like one of those.

I can tell they are your favorites since you use them as your avatars or signatures. :)

ickykitana, sounds like you're saying those ponies weren't released in the UK, is that correct? I know they were available in other European countries though.

Seems like a few of you really want them all. I have no idea how hard that has been for you so far. But hathorcats wishlist doesn't sound impossible.

HavACrumpet452, no ebay for you? My first thought is that you can't have alot of ponies in your collection, and you even registered here over a year later than me. But perhaps you can find pretty much anything at this forum.

elish2, I know what it's like having to sell ponies you really want to keep. Sold all of my G3 a while ago. It really hurts when you get down to the G1:s.

A Teddy in great condition with it's costume. What could it be worth? Is it among the rarer ones or not?

Is this thread referring to fabrics used on the original G1 pony wear? And has any of those fabrics been found for sale?

I would love to find originals for MLP or even more so for other Hasbro lines. And it would be fun just to see pictures of any of them, if anyone has a link.

Sorry gothicsugar for taking your place, but I doubt I'll keep it for long.

Something I've been wondering about is, why did they stop using some poses after a while in the G1 line?

The following ones would have seemed to work for alot more releases, but disappeared far too soon:

Glory pose
Gusty pose
Mimic Pose
Firefly pose (perhaps understandable because of the front left hoof)
Lofty pose

They would have offered alot more variation if kept. Did Hasbro lose the molds, or did they trash them for some reason?

I actually can't tell what's weird about some of those. I guess it means they would have worked in most of Europe. We Europeans wouldn't get those connotations. But yeah waterfire sounds like a contradiction. ;)

Nice to read everyones ponypreferences. I like your thinking shimmlight, what a positive way to think about not being able to collect all ponies too easily. I feel inspired. :)

hathorcat, wow only 3 or 4 accessories away? Let us know which ones, maybe someone here can help. :)

I think it was Up Up and Away. That was back when I still thought I was going to rebuild my childhood collection and that's it!  So naive...

Anyway, Up Up and Away was one of the ponies I missed the most. Then I saw her for sale alongside Dancing Butterflies.

Wow, you must have had a big or rare collection back then. Yeah I agree Dancing Butterflies would be nice to have.

Surprise and baby Surprise. They were first MLP I bought for DD last December and they started her collection (and mine obsession).

Love that neon yellow hair. Mine has quite overcombed hair though. And infact I sometimes get the feeling that certain G1 ponies has more of a tendancy of bad hair than others, like Lickety Split for example.

My Little Pony is such a gigantic franchise to collect. I know I'll never have all ponies that were released, and that kinda makes me give up and concentrate on only a few certain sets of ponies.

How do you "big time collectors" think...
Do you have goal in the back of your mind to have them all? Or what are your preferences? All G1 ponies? All Euro ponies? All orange ponies? All unicorns? One from each set? Just a few here and there that you like? The ones you find at fleamarkets?

Yeah I guess Hasbro thought it was a good idea to release some ponies in the US and some different ones in Europe. But even the ones that weren't released here in Europe, were still advertised in the little catalogs that came along with the ponies, and they appeared in the cartoons. Would be nice to see what twinkle-eyed ponies' eyes are actually made of.

I see you have quite a few ponies on your sales list, now I know where to check once I'm ready to make some pony purchases. :)

This sounds like a good idea. The cartoon series is atleast as good as the ponies themselves. Good job on the logo! :)
