How I wish I'd seen this a few days ago lol. I had a load of bait ponies (nice, glue filled G3's, of course) that I stripped the other day, including an old custom of mine who had a bad paint job (brush strokes everywhere as I painted her before I had my airbrush) and needed to be stripped. Would you believe, she was actually the hardest of all? Even worse than hasbro. And that's saying something. I'm paranoid about the hair coming out, so I pour a load of glue in the head after rehairing. Wish I hadn't on this one, though. In the end the head split merging all the plugs into one  So looks like I'll be trying to sculpt hair for the first time. That can only end well... But back on topic, my right hand at the end of it was quite painful. After using my pliers as both pliers and a chisel on that many pony heads (not to mention cutting the raised symbol off of a bait G3 Hidden Treasure.. Never again, please  ..), my hands had had all they could take for one evening.

I've always wanted to try it, but I used to buy my hair from CustomPony (shows how long it's been since I last bought hair!), and they only sold nylon. I'm buying from RetroDolls UK this time, so I'm just figuring out what I need to order. I'm going to try some saran, but on this particular custom I'll stick with the nylon as the 'Diablo' colour would suit this pony perfectly.
And thanks, PandaBerry. I hope she goes well too lol. I'll get some pictures up here when I'm done, and you can all cringe at how bad I am as an 'artist' xD

Thank you so much, PandaBerry  I'm glad I asked on here first. I wasn't sure if it would notice or not as this will be my first time working with saran. I knew it couldn't really be curled, but I was planning on straight anyway. But I wasn't sure if it would notice from a texture point of view. I will stick to the nylon on this one as that's the colour I really like out of the two. I'll see if I can find something else to blend it with. Thank you again, PandaBerry ^_^

Hello I'm planning a custom at the moment and I'm trying to decide what hair to order. I've chosen two colours that I think would blend nicely, but one is nylon and one is saran. I have never used saran before, so I don't know how different it is to nylon. Will the two go well together, or would it be wrong to blend the two hair types? Has anyone ever done it? Thanks

Thank you all so much for your answers I was concerned as on the website it says 2/3 packs are required to rehair a Sindy doll, or 3 packs for a vintage Sindy. I would have thought a Sindy would take less than a pony. Obviously not. Shows how much I know about dolls lol. Either that or the hair packs are different sizes for different types of dolls. I think I will order some, I feel happier now I have an idea of their length. Thank you all

Wow. Just wow. I had been planning to try a nebula or galaxy-themed pony soon, but I am now discouraged (this is a compliment, by the way xD). I couldn't do one half as good as yours. She's absolutely stunning! So much detail!  And the TARDIS is awesome! Seriously, she's amazing. Also, that BnG Moonstone... Absolutely stunning! She doesn't need to work.. She looks stunning just as she is!

I joined because I have collected ponies since I was five (G2 Lightheart with her canopy bed was my first :3), and I had spent a while going through fansites (eventually leading me to buy my first G1's). I eventually came across this place, and everyone here was awesome. Especially Loa.  Around that time I had decided to try out something that I'd seen on other sites - customizing. It looked like a lot of fun, and despite my lack of artistic talent, I decided to try it (hence the username )

Hey everyone I am trying to get back into customizing, and I need a new source of hair (as I assume it's still a problem to order from custompony.com?) I was looking at Retrodolls.co.uk, but I can't find the length of the hair from there. I was looking at both the nylon MLP hair and the Saran Fantasty hair range as I love the colours there and I've always wanted to try Saran. Any idea how long the skeins are? Thanks ^_^

Wow, she is stunning! How on earth did you manage to get such fine strokes?! It looks sort of feathery - very delicate. Her symbol is beautifully painted. Beautiful work

Here's a pony who has sat there unfinished for several years. I rehaired her but never got around to painting a proper symbol on her (I tried two cherries on her once but didn't like it and took it off again). Recently I picked her up and decided to finish her. She was intended to be the second pony in a series of fruit blossom ponies that I had planned to do (the first being my old custom Orange Blossom, who sadly I can't find any pictures of now). I've done her a little different to my first one. She had a symbol that had bled into her, so I had to do a little more with her than I intended to to cover it up. I am pleased that it did now, as I would have simply put a couple of cherries on and left it at that. Instead she has three cherries and some blossom, which I'm quite pleased with considering that neither fruit nor flowers are at all my strong point! This was my first time doing blossom (my Mum painted the blossom on my last one), but I had so much fun doing it, it's certainly not going to be my last! She took nearly two skeins of hair, so she wasn't exactly cheap But she looks nice with the two colours and really thick, long hair. I was really pleased with her choker, too. I came up with it by accident after draping the red ribbon over the glittery black one, and realising they went really well together. So that's two accidents on one pony that have ended up improving her xD Anyway, I know she's not up to the standard of the other amazing artists on here, but having no artistic talent myself, I am quite pleased with how she came out. In the end, I had a lot of fun doing her ^_^ She's for sale on ebay now (as I asked in my last post, am I still allowed to say that? Confusing title, I know I did this pony back in 2007, but never posted her on here. She's sat on a shelf for a while, but I've decided to sell her now. And as I'm getting back into pony collecting after a long break and have come back to the Arena now, I thought I would post her on here. She is for sale on ebay now (I'm still allowed to say that, aren't I? Hey everyone! I doubt anyone here remembers me. I've been away for quite a while. But I'm back now ^_^ I've done a few customs on off over the past few years, and I thought it was time to share them on here. I have intentionally kept away from other custom threads until after posting this, because I know if I look at the amazing skills of the other artists on here, I'll be too embarrassed to show mine Anyway, as I've just listed her on ebay (meaning she already has pictures uploaded to Tinypic), I thought I would start with this pony As most of you will know, she was based on G3 Bumbleberry. I bought her to customize a few years ago, but her hair was so nice I just couldn't bring myself to rehair her. It went into a natural curl at the ends, and it just looked stunning. So she sat there for ages untouched. Finally I decided I just couldn't rehair her, so I just did her as she was and kept her hair He name is Ti Amo. I painted her with acrylic paints and stuck on some tiny red hearts that I've been trying to find a use for for ages. I also used a large red jewel that I've been waiting to use on the right pony. Anyway, let me know how bad you think she is I'll be posting a few more of my customs soon.
