Return to Oz 8/10 Great nightmare fuel infused nostalgic film. It was the first time my husband and I had watched it together though we'd both seen it before years prior growing up.

Oh, is that the movie from 1985?  I have missed it for a long time!  :bawl: The last time I saw it was when I was a little girl. I had it on VHS recorded from the TV, but I don't know where the tape went or if someone recorded something else over it. At the time, I thought it was one of the best movies ever! I miss its lovely gloom and characters.

The Creator 8/10
I had no expectations walking into the screen and came out overwhelmed with emotions. John shed some tears.

WISH !!   8.5/10

What a delightful movie, despite it being a bit uneven storywise. Such a wonderful nod to all the disney movies that came before, from the opening to the runtime! So many easter eggs. The music is amazing imo; with "Welcome to Rosas" and "The Wish" being my favorites.

Opinions on the animation style vary, but I liked it a lot. It was supposed to blend the current 3D trend and the handdrawn animation from times gone by, and for me, it worked.

The symbolism behind the wishes could have been explained a little more in depth, but I'm sure a lot of people will get the message.

The last one I watched was Nightmare Before Christmas. It's actually been a long time since I watched it. I think that the older you get, the more disturbing some of the subtext is *lol*, especially things that go on in Halloween town. Will always love the songs though.

John Wick 4. I like the overall storyline in the series. The violent action scenes not so much. I did some crosswords and sudoku while they were on and continued to watch during dialogue. I did the same for the third one. 6/10, because I love Keanu Reeves.

Slotherhouse 5.5/10★
Talk about a corny slasher film. The sloth is cute, and I got a few genuine laughs out of it, but some of it was just so cringy. It’s about what I expected.

Four Christmases 4/10★
I just didn’t know what to make of this movie. It wasn’t the most horrible thing I’ve ever seen, but it wasn’t very good either. The resolution was strange. And I hate when movies have the ex-fat-camper trope. It’s always “how embarrassing that you used to be fat and you went to fat camp!” like they should be ashamed. Plus this one had the “your former bestie was a lesbian and you didn’t even know it” backstory like she should be embarrassed, and it’s like whyyyy.  :nope:

Leo which is a movie about an elderly lizard class pet on Netflix. I kind of sucked at describing it lol but it was a really good heartfelt movie. 8/10.

^ Is that the one with Adam Sandler? They are advertising that hard here because it takes place in Florida.

War of the Worlds (2006? 7? the one with Tom Cruise) 8/10

Ugh, I have such a love/hate relationship with this movie. I've seen it before lots of times, but I haven't seen it in a couple years. I love the Tripods, I think they are totally cool and make the best sounds. I love the Tim Robbins part. Dakota Fanning is awesome as always. Cruise is okay in this. But it's a movie full of lies! And it drives me absolutely crazy. Rule #1 of writing fiction is you can't lie to your audience. You can have aliens, monsters, magic, any crazy thing you can of - but don't lie. If an airplane crashes on your house, there is not going to be a debris free trail you can drive on. If it takes a simple thing to fix a car, you are not going to be the only person with a working car. If you live in Chicago, you are not going to be the only person with a gun. Ugh!

Genie: 7/10★
I love Melissa McCarthy. The end was a bit slapped together, but I enjoyed it enough!

Leo: 5/10★
I was having a hard time deciding who the audience was. You would think CLEARLY kids, but IDK, it was kinda strange to me. Don’t get me wrong, I laughed a few times. But the old lizard was giving weird advice once in awhile. I was glad when the little girl corrected him that it’s healthy to cry. I thought the biggest moral to the story is not to give advice when you don’t know what you’re talking about. My 8-year-old nephew literally asked if a teacher can take kids some place other than where the field trip is supposed to be. All the adults in the room were like NO! Eesh.

Good Burger 2: 4/10★
It was moronic, as I expected. I thought nostalgia would make me give it a higher rating, but no. The annoyingness is funnier when you’re a kid.

Vivarium 9/10

If you'd like to see a really weird movie, this is the one. I'm not sure what to say about it other than it's good and very different. Slight spoiler

Spoiler
I only wish we got to see what they looked like. Though, I paused when she was going through the book and I think they are human hybrids? So maybe the vocal cord thing was the only physical thing different about them.
