On the subject of Pillow Talk, the whole set really has implications when you put the names together. Pink Dreams, Sleepy Head, Sleep Tight, and Nightcap. Yes, another wild Hasbro party on the cards.

And on that note, Kiss & Tell...heck, even Kiss & Make Up...what's going on there? The morals completely collapsed. The US set had banal but less questionable names in Happy Hugs and Lovin' Kisses...

I have a real problem with Kiss & Tell. That's not something you should be teaching young girls.

I thought the same thing about Nightcap and I also agree on Kiss  & Tell. Tispy Tulip also makes me think of ponies drinking alcohol.

Sometimes I wonder how Hasbro came up with some of these names.

I think "Pillow Talk" was a case of "Tee hee, see what we did there? Nudge nudge wink wink say no more" and they figured it was safe since it would sail right over the heads of children unless for some reason they already knew what that meant. "Nightcap," most children would assume referred to an actual sleeping cap and not a euphemism for pre-bedtime alcohol.

I named my Muffins pony Cupcake  I remember getting her and saying 'I know the name of this one.... it's something to do with small cakes....Cupcake!' And the name stuck.

I rename a lot of ponies, usually with random human names that only really make sense to me so I wouldn't expect them to be widely adopted.

My girlfriend called Sticky and Sniffles Mittens and Booties when she was little, which I think is cute. Anything's an improvement on their official names, which just sound like a disease!

I strongly suspect what happened with them was someone going "Ugh, more babies to name... Fine. I'll call 'em Sticky and Sniffles since babies are always making sticky messes of themselves and getting sick"

For me, I'd do a swap, Pretty Belle and Sweet Sundrop. I think they were unintentionally swapped during production.

Floater

Yes, oh my goodness, yes

I think as a group the Happy Tails ponies got the worst names.  Squeezer?  Woosie?  Tossles?   :lookround:

I like Fleecy and Fluffy better then I think it was Speckles and Bunkie? Or was that Sticky and Sniffles?

Fleecy and Fluffy are Speckles and Bunkie. Sticky and Sniffles are called Tuggles and Toddles inthe Uk. Which are also stupid baby names but at least don't sound like a biological weapon is being born.

Okay, that last line made me laugh.

If I ever get those twins I'm calling them Fleecy and Fluffy.

While I don't have an alternative to suggest, off the top of my head I'd say

Whizzer

Floater

Swinger ...

Some great alternative names have been suggested :D

A few G3s came to mind for me.  I love Shenanigans, but never cared for her name.  I personally would have called her Skywishes, and would have changed the actual Skywishes to Skyflier, after the G1, since both of them have kite symbols.

I also love the pony Finger Paints, but to me she is "Pretty Palette."

Pretty Palette is such a lovely name!

I love the Baby Ballerina ponies but despair of their names. Baby Tippytoes is Clover to me :)

I said Sticky and Sniffles just now, but I meant Sniffles and Snookums  Hence renaming one of them Mittens.

On the subject of alcohol-related names, my little son was buzzing around me yesterday with a booklet of a bunch of vintage ponies printed in it, and asking me what their names were. I was too busy to answer him, so he started naming them himself. One of them he called 'Moonshine'. I thought it was funny. I tried to look at it later to pick out who he might have been talking about, maybe it was Nightglider, as the TAF ponies were featured on it, but I'm not sure.

It would be a fun custom pony to make...a grizzled old guy pony with an eyepatch, a scowl, and a tankard foaming over by the light of the moon as his symbol...

Makes sense to me. The shame of being named Finger Paints when neither you nor your friends have fingers...
Gender? I hardly know 'er!  | PM me about G1 custom or OOAK World's Smallest commissions! ;)
