Wow, that's ridiculous. This is like when people claim beanie babies are rare, but most of them sell for less than original retail value.

Ones that sell for less than $12 MAXIMUM. Also reminds me of someone I saw selling a fakie for $30 because she thought it was rare due to the lack of information online about her.

Fakies are even more common at second hand sales at the moment and a lot of dealers are also inundated with them, demonstrating they don't bother to know the difference.
