Guilty Pony
« on: October 04, 2016, 06:14:04 AM »
 this is a little embarrassing... But have you ever felt guilty over a pony?

As a kid I loved all my ponies. I made sure to play with each of them....I had a lot. If you see my wish list you will see how many were in my childhood collection.  :lookround:

Well there was one pony that did not get good playing time. She did not have her own baby to look after, she wasn't popular like the boys, and well she smelled....and I did not want to loose her smell...she like so many of my collection was thrown out and burned in a trash pile....yes tragic.

For the last few months I have been thinking about her. Feeling guilty about her....and almost beating myself up over her....I know crazy! I saw an opportunity to buy her...I took it.

I do not remember the last time I bought something here on the arena. I feel like a kid again. I even kissed this pony

Have you ever felt guilt? This is new to me. I would also like to make her hair nice....is there proper care because she is wonderfully smelly and I do not want to loose that. I like doing a spa day with new ponies...it's like welcome to the herd.

Oh and here she is....Swirly Whirly!

oh my gosh, Now I am even more happy that you have her now! Im so glad you could give Swirly Whirly a second chance!
I dont know much about how to preserve her smell, I never bathed her obviously xD.

But I totally know the feeling about neglecting a toy. >.< When I was little and I realized I hadn't played with something for a long time, I felt very bad for the toy. Eventually watching Toy Story, didnt help this feeling. rofl

I've got one I believe. It was my first G1 Pony, an Italian Twilight which I've got from my mom about 2-3 years ago. However her body was in bad shape as her body was discolored badly, and more like big splotches. So I wanted to repaint her by using spraypaint (didn't do so) and after some month I wanted to try Sun Fading. Her hair was tangled in aluminium foil and her symbols painted. But like the spraypaint it never happended. So I  tossed her into a box for over a year...

I actually felt pretty bad after a while. She was my very first G1 Pony and I got her from my mom. So I just decided to accept her who she is. I took of the foil and removed the paint with some rubbing alcohol. And then I gave her a nice hair treatment and now she's standing on the top shelf of my cabinet which is for all the "special" ponies. (Like the one's that were on my B-day Cake etc.)

I still feel a little guilty that I didn't appreciate my Dainty Dove when I was a kid, but I just wasn't a pony kid. No idea what happened to her. Also feel kinda guilty about throwing away my step sister's magic motion Ivy. Poor girl ending up in the trash.

Other than those I think my only guilty moments have been that I love a pony - but should not have bought them because money.

Not a MLP exactly. I only ever had one as a kid - I was more into Fantasy Filly (which was a short lived and obscure line)...

There was one I owned and loved named Prisma, who I bought myself  when I was like 7ish with a gift card prize for a halloween contest.

(pic from http://www.fantasyfillies.com/filly.php?p=unicorn!)

But I some how totally trashed her. I lost her horn, her back leg broke off, I put gunky gold paint in her hair, and on her body which made her paint peel off. she lost her jewels too. She was TRaaaasshed beyond recognition. I dunno exactly why or how, I guess I tried to decorate her and she was built kind of delicately.

Well, I still have her. I restored her to some degree a few years back to repaint her, restore her jewels and glitter. I even molded her a new foot. I have no way to replace her transparent horn, so she has a custom, pearlized swirling one
Here she is now:

Not nearly what she used to be. :(
But defiantly better than after I messed her up as a kid - I don't have any pics of that, but believe me, she looked nearly salvageable originally.

Anyway, I feel pretty bad about not taking better care of my favorite childhood pony.
She's like nearly impossible to find, and when I do see her for sale she's like 70 - 100+ dollars. Wahhh!

Sometimes a trashed pony is a very loved pony. As kids we don't always know better.

I am glad I am not alone with this.

Terra - I did something like that to some of my favorite non-mlps as well. I only ever loved 3 horse toys but I didn't take super good care of them all. I completely destroyed Sunstar and Moondance (Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders). I stored them by throwing them on the closet floor with everything else because I didn't want to clean my room and they didn't fare so well. I regret not keeping my broken versions so that I could try to fix them. Instead as a kid I remember throwing them away and crying about it.

I've replaced mine now (more tears when I opened them) but they were pretty pricey. I would have gotten new ones anyway at some point but I do wish I had my childhood ones as well.

My third one is Barbie horse, I'm so happy I still have her. I'm going to customize her the way I wanted to when I was a kid at some point after her minty sister comes in. That way I can see both. Fingers crossed you can find another version of your girl so you can do the same. Even though she doesn't look new she will always be special for you because of her story.

I know excatly what you mean, I lost all of my ponies over the time, thinking I was too old to play with them, now I look back and I feel bad for letting them disappear. Maybe they are somewhere in my fathers house, but I never found them. Just a summer wing pony they took for a normal horse so her wings where cut off, her hair too. She is the only one left from my early years and I feel really bad since I can't restore her yet. But I will, she will become someone else. But I have got the improve my skills on customizing first.
When we are kinds we think we know better and then toss them away, and now we regret cause we know better, and those toys are special to us.
I bought back most of them, except for a fakie and a baby sea pony, I love them, but they don't know me from that time. Still I a, so happy to have got them, plus all the others I could not have back then. So in a way there's always a chance of redemption.

There is one pony I feel guilty about. Not too long after I got G2 Ivy as a kid, I ended up cutting her hair and giving her a mohawk-like style. :yikes: I guess I thought it would grow back, but then I learned that no, it was never gonna grow back.

Giving everyone hugs. These are so ooooh sad. But we love them now and on a crusade to save them.

I work in a day care and saw a container of g3 and fakes. They are not good. It looks like the newer generations will deal with the same thing.

For me its a Purple Totsy unicorn. I got her as a kid, and I didn't like her as much because she wasn't a real MLP. I eventually "hid" her in my grandparent's attic. About 20 or so years later, my mom and I were cleaning out my grandparent's attic, and I found her. At first, I was overjoyed because I had a childhood pony again. Like one that was mine. My entire childhood collection was sold in a yard sale while I was away at college. I was so happy.....but later that night I was looking at her and I just started to feel so guilty. As an adult collector, I had grown to love Totsys, and here I had had one all along. I felt so bad as I thought about her sitting up in the attic all that time by herself. After a while I felt less guilty, and more at piece with my decision because I decided it was a good thing to do after all. If I hadn't put her in the attic, then she would have been sold off with all the others. Now she is my favorite pony, and the jewel of my collection. She is the ONE pony I will never sell. But I did feel guilty about her treatment for the longest time.

I feel guilty about all of my childhood G3s, and I would have had about 50 of them. My parents convinced me to take them to a charity shop when I was 11, and it was only when I was 14 that I got back into ponies and really regretted losing them all. The worst thing is that I can't remember which ones I had and some of them could have been rare or worth a lot of money. Even if they weren't, I wish I still had them to display alongside my G4s.

Wind Drifter, my one childhood pony. Not only do I not know what became of her, she was in really rough shape. I washed her hair with soap! By the time she left my life, she was wingless with dry scraggly hair that I think must have been cut at least once. She was the first pony I bought when I started collecting, once I researched to find out what her name was.

I once buried a teeny tiny lil giggles in the sand while playing. The adult ponies were supposed to rescue her. However she could not be found on the playground after I tried to relocate her....:(

Also threw my baby sparkle firefly onto the roof making her fly. She lived on the roof all the rest of summer and fall and winter. I got her back the following spring. One side of her was completely transparent clear!

Needless to say I felt very guilty for both of these ponies and still do!
Thanks to calico star for my avatar!
