How can you tell whats a prototype/factory error variant VS a fakie, especially for blind bags?

Broadly speaking I'd say you can never prove something is a prototype instead of a fakie, but you can feel pretty sure. The biggest factor (besides obvious stuff like fakies using totally wrong molds, etc.) is probably how numerous something is, because fakies are meant to be sold and prototypes, well, aren't. It also helps if a prototype shows up before the released version of something (e.g. Lyrica Lilac's alternate pose) instead of after (e.g. the fashion style Ponymanias).

I honestly don't know much about prototype G4 ponies but I'd like to add the prototype G1 and G3 ponies which I have seen are hand finished, with hand painted details. They are either solid clay or resin or a full body repaint of a vinyl body. Often their symbols, pose or other details will have some difference to the released version.

this may not be true of G4 ponies though!
