SHe's really cute! I used to have the BBE version, but I think I sold her a few years back when I was doing a bit of a pony purge. :V Would love to own both versions again though!

NBBE is such an ugly negative term.

I have the regular Baby Half Note from childhood, and also my childhood friend's one, which has different colour eyes. It was normal for that version to be sold with the playset here, as well as the BBE one being sold with it. Then also a BBE one from a carboot sale, but I like the one I had as a child much better.

My childhood baby with her childhood friends and home! I tied the yellow ribbon on there because the bow broke and wouldn't work as a handle any more ;)

And the two regular babies - my childhood one with the aqua eyes and my friend's with the purple.

How so Taffeta? I mean its just differentiating between the same ponies released in several different sets. Plus some people like a certain gimmick and others don't.

Like Gusty, So-Soft Gusty, BBE Baby Gusty, NBBE Baby Gusty and... that's a lot of Gustys.

Because it says that they're defined by their "NOT being a part of a set" as opposed to being part of a set in their own right.  What makes it more offensive is that all the "non" sets are European or UK sets that differ from the US sets, so it's a way of subordinating the European releases to the US "default", which for those of us who grew up in other places, is kinda off.

Baby Gusty is from the Play and Care set, so she is Play and Care Set Baby Gusty. Shady and Wind Whistler and co are Movie Star Ponies. And Baby Half Note is either the Mail Order version or regular Baby Half Note. None of them need to be negated by comparison to another set. They are their own ponies and have their own correct set identifiers and names. They don't need to be "non-" ponies. Those terms may have been fine back in 1998 when it was all new, but I'd like to think we've moved on from there.

Re the MO - I have no clue, but both of the ones I had came from childhood collections here in the UK, new with playsets. So I suspect we had the same ponies as the US had for MO and maybe they were leftovers that were sold with the sets here. I think aqua eyes is more common but I don't know about the US line.

I disagree with the  "it's a way of subordinating the European releases to the US "default", ".  There are a few US releases of both BBE and NBBE babies and they are still referred to as "NBBE". Its not a UK/EURO vs US thing so much as a (written) short form way of differentiating between normal eyes and not normal eyes. The same way that "Twinkle Eyes" is shortened to "TE", "Brush and Grow" to "BnG", "merry go round" to "MGR". In fact the UK/Euro releases with Normal eyes are much more sought after, expensive and much more liked than the US BBE releases. I've often heard BBE`s referred to as "Creepy eyes" "rust eyes", "ugly eyes"  and many collectors refuse to buy/have/keep them and others custom them to get normal eyes.  I have a baby shady that came to me with the eyes customised to normal.

Having said all that I do think "NBBE" could be shortened to "NE" Normal eyes. Or where it is appropriate "UK" or "EURO" baby...
