Anyone Else Not Really Like The So Softs?

Sorry, but I love SSs as long as the flocking isn't too horrendous. I'll take patchy, slightly yellowed flocking, over ugly-yellow brown and saggy flocking any day.

They just look so sweet and feel so nice flocked.

There are a few I love better de-locked though. Twist, Magic Star and Angel are too gorgeous!

I can't stand them. I feel they are like a weird cross between a pony and a baby doll (I am not at all into baby dolls either).

Oh you meant G1 So Softs? I like them if the flocking looks good just like with any other flocked toy. For some reason second hand flocked toys often look gross.

Such a tough call, tbh.  Gross flocking icks me right out, but when it's pristine... they were well-named as so softs!  I loved the colours and the palette for some of them... and had I had a daughter, I'd have loved a nursery themed around Lofty, Wind Whistler, and North Star.

I didn't like them as a kid and I don't like them now.  They are a horribly executed set.  It might have been alright if Hasbro had used the kind of flocking that, for example, Sylvanian Families toys have: very short, very easy to see through, and able to be wiped clean of surface dirt.

But instead they PILED on thick flocking that gets matted down and dirty so easily!  And after the flocking is dirty and matted that's it, it's done, it will never "fluff up" again.  I had so many So-Softs go through my hands where their symbols weren't even visible due to their dirt, and no amount of shampooing and soaping fixed it.

The 2nd set of So-Softs had much better (shorter) flocking that was easier to clean, but even on them I don't like the concept.  Wish they'd all been sold as "normal" ponies.

Ooo, with flocking like Sylvanian Families, they'd have been amazing!  Come on, someone - invent time travel so I can go back in time and rescue our So Softs from Hasbro's poor decision!

i used to dislike them a LOT until i actually got one. i dont like how it hides her vibrant colors, but i do love petting my scrumptious
if she wasnt so perfect and fun to pet i would consider deflocking. i know she looks so pretty under all that fur!

I never liked them until I held one in person and felt they were much softer than I suspected! I still don't like the ones whose symbols are super obscured.

I don't dislike them, but given a choice between SS and NSS, I'll choose NSS or deflocked.

The second set seems to have nicer flocking than the first set.  Overall, not a huge fan of the flocking.  My deflocked Gusty and Wind Whistler are so pretty without the fluff!

I'm with the ones who didn't like them until they saw/held one IRL.
I bought a GORGEOUS SS Lofty for a swap once. I still wish I'd bought a second one and kept her. she was marvellous! Then again, the flocking has to be pristine for me to like them. fluffy and pretty much untouched. Definitely not discoloured.

This is because Scrumptious is awesomely cute! I just adore her! My daughter has a nice little set of So-Softs going on and they look so nice, pastel and fluffy together.

Scrumptious, North Star, Wind Whistler and Lofty.

North Star is the odd one out. Her flocking feels kinda rough for some reason.

My Paradise looks decent too. I'm on the hunt for Gusty, Ribbon and Twist.

The feel of flocking makes me cringe like nails on a chalk board.
I hate that they don't clean well.
Hate the yellowing/brown of the glue.
Hate rub marks, its like they are injured.
But I do like their fuzzy little faces. Its like real ponies in their winter woollies.
I plan to get some of them with a de-flocked double.

In minty condition, So-Softs are wonderful.  Once they get worn or dirty though, ugh.  Nasty.  I do wish Hasbro had used coloured flocking instead of white for the ponies that would have benefited it - ones like Ribbon are /so/ different without the fuzz!

I LOVE so softs! In good condition, of course. I love cleaning them up and making them nice and fluffy and soft. But there is nothing more satisfying than deflocking a grungy so soft and discovering the hidden beauty underneath! I'm actually trying to collect a set of nice so softs and they're deflocked twins.

I only own one SS - Taffy - and she's pretty mangy... A lot of rubs, yellowed glue, attracts dust like no tomorrow and has a large black mark that I can't remove using acetone without that patch of flock coming off too... As she's been my only experience with the line, I'd have to say I prefer them deflocked but my mind would probably change if I ever had the chance to feel a minty one :0

When they are mint, they are gorgeous.  If I could have them all mint off the card, I would in a heartbeat.    However, when they get grungy and rubbed, I can see how they lose their appeal.  Personally, I still love them, rubs and all.

I only wish the second set had the same type of flocking as the first set.  It is so hard to find a mint Crumpet.

I don't like the concept but so many ponies I like are exclusively part of those sets: Lofty, Bouncy, Ribbon, Twilight, Crumpet, Angel, Hippity Hop, and Fifi.
