How bad is pin dot?
« on: August 08, 2016, 03:41:50 PM »
I've been looking to buy G1 Bubblefish for a while now. I found one last week on ebay, and she seemed to be in good condition. Description stated that she was in very good condition, only a little wear. I saw what appeared to be surface dirt on the pictures, which I wasnt worried about, I can clean that. Nothing in the listing said she had pin dot or cancer. I think I paid about $24 for her. She areived today, and I did a full inspection. Her hair is in good condition, it looks like she may have had a slight trim, but nothing major. Moving on to the surface dirt. Much to my disappointment, its not serface dirt. Its pin dot, and what looks like a few cancer spots. Now my problem is that I do now want to return her. I have had a really hard time finding one with good hair and a complete symbol. I have contacted the seller and told her what I found and asked for a partial refund. My question is how bad is pin dot, and will it spread. I've never had a pony have this before.
Thanks!

I feel like that is a very subjective question-  it really would depend on how bad it is, how visible, can it be removed (sometimes this is possible)

What kind of cancer are we talking about here?

For some, it would be a deal breaker, others maybe not.

Its showing up like tiny black pin dots on her nose, and one small brown spot on her ear.

Pin dot isn't cancer... it's just ingrained dirt.   It doesn't spread unless you keep the pony in just-as-dirty-or-dirtier conditions.

The cancer happens because of the ingrained dirt, and it weakens the plastic overall, even after cleaning, so it's really difficult to predict when/where/how big the cancer spots will get and where they will show, and how long it will take until it finally pops up.  It could reveal itself after cleaning, it could take months, it might even be a year or two.

I've cleaned out pin dot on a loot ponies, and it's in no way fun. It's one of my very least like parts of cleaning because of the time involved. Lol Argie ponies make it a big challenge for sure. Some people are having good results treating cancer with peroxide.

It's going to take near-boiling water and a ton of scrubbing and scraping to get the pindot off.  Sadly there is just no other way.

I would wait for better condition, but I don't like cleaning ponies and I am bad at it.

^This works the best

Honestly pin-dot kind of reminds me of blackheads. It sounds gross, but dirt gets into the pony plastic pores and "clogs" them. Using hot hot water to soften the plastic allows the pores to open and release the dirt, scrubbing helps to get it all away~

Pin dot is mould I had a whole shelf suffer with it. My ponies didn't have it until I put them on the shelf in my damp room. My room isn't dirty.
Pin dot mould and ingrained dirt are different
